Big brother watching

Was browsing on Rednote, saw an audio chat room, and went in. The subject was quite interesting. A few Chinese and Americans were chatting and asking each other on job market, work conditions, labor disputes, and unions. Not long, then a platform notice came in, saying the subject is not allowed.

Then people have to switch the topic to food etc.

The big brother is definitely watching, even the audio conversations. It is China, not the US. Totally different level of freedom.

Unlike most of American apps. The moderation of RedNote is run by real people and they have at least 1 person from the Chinese government that also overlooks everything.

And I'm assuming they're on high alert from the sudden influx of foreigners coming in.

You know… people like you are really sad. I have no idea if you’re really Chinese but what is sad is someone spending this much time (whether this time is being compensated or not) trying to control any hope of cultural bridge building. You’re no different than the dour, dystopian, worst possible case scenarios you’ve spent what appears to be your entire Reddit existence spinning. Big brother may be watching, but so is Zuck, and so is Siri, and so is everyone else. But instead of presenting all those facts in equal measure, you deploy highly propagandized tactics in a desperate attempt to prevent humans from saying hello to each other. If you were really Chinese you would be making posts helping bridge the cultural gap, not whatever fearmongering BS this is.

There’s definitely a steep learning curve when it comes to using Chinese social media. I know certain topics, like ‘Tank Man’ or even the year of that uprising, would get me banned instantly. Chinese users seem to treat social media very differently from us Americans. They focus more on presenting themselves in a professional, polished, and aspirational way, whereas we tend to post anything and everything. That’s a huge part of what made TikTok so popular it thrives on relatable, unfiltered content that was more authentic. The cultural and social norms around rednote use are just completely different.

Platform in China do self-censorship to avoid potential trouble. Most of the time they tend to over-do it. CN gov really don't have that much energy to monitor 1.4 billion people.

Every conversation gets monitored, you just have to stay clear of sensitive topics.

Dude are you for real? You act like people are stupid or some shit. I read your comments on this post and you make yourself sound authentic by saying you've lived in china for 20 years and the us for 20. But what you said is not the same of what ive experienced in china. I too have lived in China and the US for a long time.

You are arguing with bad faith all over the place. Not directly banning tiktok but delisting it from the app stores are pretty much the same as banning it. On top of that, google or apple or other US companies can't provide any services to tiktok. Do you even know what that means to a social media platform?

For the folks who are new to the rednote. This platform is not serving for the purpose of political topics but normal daily life like food, travle or other fan part of life. The slogan of the platform is the wiki for your daily life. Political part is not really the true purpose how this platform is built. If you want to know how Chinese people live, here's the right place. If people want to talk about other serious topics, Rednote may not the correct one to choose. Please kindly be aware, rules give people freedom because people know where the freedom is.

With all due respect, we Chinese used to say 二鬼子比鬼子更狠。

鬼子 (literally demon?) refers to the Japanese invaders in WWII, China.

二鬼子 (literally 2nd demon?) refers to the Chinese traitors who collaborated with Japanese in WWII.

So what we used to say basically means, traitors are more ruthless and more hateful than enemies.

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
