Was TikTok required to ban IPs from VPNs under the law and delete all US accounts, or did they just do this voluntarily to maximize the outrage at the ban? I know people from India who can access TikTok via VPNs, so I was wondering why I wasn't able to do the same here.
It had to do with where your profile was created. Also, to download the app, you need your Google or Apple account, and these were set up/registered to the US therefore your still blocked even with a VPN.
They banned accounts made or registered in the US so even if you got around the network and geolocation ban, you'd still have to create a new account. I'm not a creator but I've built my algorithm... yeah it would suck to lose that but making a new account wouldn't be the end of the world. For creators that would have lost their following and no longer have the option to make money from it, they'd probably just say screw it and go to another platform.
I don't know what happened but the browser on my PC was still logged in and was working. Probably 97% of the people I followed were in the US so I saw about 7 videos from Canadian creators and a bunch of other complete non-US random stuff. I felt like the cockroach that survived the apocalypse... as I scrolled, the feeling wore off fast and I realized it just wasn't the same.
They banned the accounts because they didn't want to chance getting fined if US users found a way to access.

It also asked me to "verify" with the app when I logged in to my Swiss account over a VPN so even without the account flag telling them I'm in the US they seemed to be using data leaks from an inherently insecure device to catch people.
The data for US accounts is in Texas. When TikTok shut down on Saturday night, they turned off the data centers run by Oracle in Texas. So it doesn’t matter if you’re using a VPN if the data centers are not operational.

1:19I've been having an issue with tiktok for a while now and it just keeps getting more and more apparent. Other than my past accounts being muted and shadowbannd for things that other creators went viral for....my videos, no matter what the subject or how trending the topic is will c completely bomb. Out of my first 100 views i might get 2 likes. I'll then see a VERY similar video by someone with either less followers or around the same amount...and people will like their video causing it to blow up.... it could be a meme, a gaming video, whatever...the newest call of duty: MW4 releases and has a part of a mission where a character all of a sudden starts to fight on a way higher difficulty and is fighting much faster....i posted a video of how i reacted in the moment with a few edits and....it bombed....people viewing but not liking...a couple of days later (today) I see someone else post a VERY similar video...with the same exact concept....and they had more followers than me but not by a ridiculous amount. The video blows up...lots of views...lots of likes...it happens to me every time no matter what
These views are my friends. I can't even promote so rejected everytime for violating but my videos totally mine and original. Tiktok support told me they clear ghost ban on video but whenever I post every video goes same. What can I do?
if my comments get likes, sometimes it just doesn't show up on my iphone notification centre. i have to go into the tiktok app and actually see if i got any notifications. DM notifications work fine though, it's mainly just comments/likes sometimes it works though, sometimes it doesn't. it's super buggy and i want to know if anyone else has had this issue, or if there's a fix to it.
