Are you still using it?

Are you still using “rednote” or XHS? Can you make friends on it? And tell me what do you like about it?

For a bit context of me: I am a Chinese who live in Canada for 14 years. I have never used XHS - can’t bear the censorship and control. A lot of my Chinese friends using it. I understand it got viral recently, and I am curious how do you feel about using it?

Thank you.

I'm using it. It's nice, I like to see some chinese culture, some memes, some funny videos.

It's a nice app, my only problem is the language, the translator sometimes don't work, but it's ok.

I just don't talk politics in there, the only time I did it, the pro-palestine people (not chinese) were very agressive and said I looked like a jew. Also, I never tried to say anything bad about China.

Just download the app and try yourself, it's a fun app, like a Instagram. I wish I could use the shop to buy stuff from China.

I recommend you don't talk politics in there, just go for the fun stuff you know.

this is a great app for calmness in a way I have not seen on IG or Tiktok. I get lots of soft slow videos that calm your nerves.

I am using it. Maybe it's the algorithm, but I find the vibe much more chill and relaxing. We all need a break from political talks once in a while. Talking to people in China is fun as they are regular people anyway. The censor thing doesn't bother me since I don't live in China anyway. There are plenty of other apps and channels to talk about politics.

I like it, friends on there have teached me Lofter too, i'm in an anime fandom with both westerns and asian fans, so this was good because both communities contribute to the other bringing the fan-content, it's peaceful

i'm using it. i like it because both the content and the creators tend to be more uplifting than on other apps. it has a more cheerful energy. i'm also really enjoying learning more about China, and being exposed to something different than Western culture. but i agree on the censorship, i've had many comments removed and my account shadowbanned, even though i don't comment often and try very hard to be careful and respectful when i do.

Yes, I made friends on it 🥰 Mostly because I'm into a very niche fashion style

It's a great app. My feed is all things I'm interested in, there's a few local group chats that I'm a part of, and I'm actually making friends local as well as foreign. It's been great. Follow me @- fool of a took- if you'd like:)

I'm Chinese too. I was an expat kid so while my parents were native Chinese citizens, we moved countries a lot for their jobs so I was mostly raised outside of China.

I've been on Xiaohongshu since 2018 and I honestly love it. I much prefer the experience on Xiaohongshu over apps like Instagram, Twitter/X and Tiktok (though I also have Douyin).

At first, Xiaohongshu was a way for me to connect with my roots as well as my cousins in China. But, pretty soon, I fell in love with the app and just.... kept using it.

Personally, I find that people are kinder to me on Xiaohongshu (less toxic). The comments I receive on my Xiaohongshu posts were a lot more supportive and kind. Not like the kind of awful (sometimes, racist) comments I'd get on Tiktok for instance. And they don't comment on my body, unlike horny randos on Insta.

The women on Xiaohongshu especially were soooo nice to me. So yes, I've made friends on Xiaohongshu. Chinese friends from all over China, from Taiwan, South East Asia, even overseas Chinese diaspora in English speaking countries like myself. We learned so much from each other... like for instance, my Singaporean friend taught me how to cook her country's local dishes.

Honestly, even the men that slid into my Xiaohongshu messages were less.... rude and vulgar. They don't call me names when I told them I'm not interested in dating them. They'd just apologize to me, wish me well and quietly disappear from my messages.

Plus I am really happy with my Xiaohongshu algo which is full of food, makeup and skincare recommendations, lots and lots of art sharing (inspiration for my own art), gorgeous landscapes of places all over China, and super cute puppies, kitties and bunnies! I just don't talk about politics.

I'm on Xiaohongshu just to get art inspo, get GOOD Asian makeup and skincare recommendations, coo over fluffy animals and chat with my cousins, relatives and Xiaohongshu friends.

Ngl, Xiaohongshu also literally taught me how to cook hahah. And it improved my makeup game as well as my hairstyle game by like.... 300%.

You should try it out. Just check out Xiaohongshu for the fun stuff or hobby stuff. I'm sure you'll also make new friends there. Just... keep it politics-free.

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
