This is currently speculation on my part...

... But with XHS getting summoned and penalized by the Cyberspace Authority of China on September 11, 2025, I do suspect that they will be walling off the app to foreigners by the end of the year (my guess).

I had noticed that my FYP hadn't changed and I wasn't getting a lot of authentic content that I was use to when that unofficialCEO guy with the hat had made a post about a new version of the app maybe being released which caused me to go into a rabbit hole of stuff. One of which was finding out that Big Daddy Data called XHS in their office.

Another thing I looked at was that I'm the Google Store, the app title is now in Chinese and no longer reads as just "Rednote." I did double check through Wayback Machine to make sure I wasn't crazy but as of September 11, they changed their Google store title to be in Chinese.

Right now, I expect users are noticing something with their FYPs. I hadn't been getting very good content and so started to dig around. And then I turned off auto translate... And then my FYP was much better.

It can be inferred that the AI auto translating tools are actually moderating, filtering and funneling content so that international users may be seeing more curated content compared to authentic content. It also works the same with the Domestic users and they may be seeing less of your content. This would be referred to as a "soft split."

I am guessing that by the end of the year or sooner, they will be walling off the international users.

People have been saying for ages users will be split, but there is no actual evidence pointing to that direction

It is already becoming soft blocked. You get a request to verify your account, and it turns out that without Chinese ID it becomes almost impossible to do so.

The Chinese authorities want Chinese people to use domestic social media apps. They make it difficult for foreign users to get an account on these apps and the firewall blocks domestic access to overseas social media.

Rednote was open to foreigners and so when Trump’s TikTok ban happened, lots of foreigners joined. It was probably only a matter of time before the authorities took action.

They might blame the actions of a particular influencer as an excuse to act but the real reason is they want to keep Chinese social media for domestic users only.

I'm going to be legit sad if/when it happens, even if I knew it was probably inevitable from the beginning. This app changed my perspective on so much, to the point where I almost think it changed my life.

I would be sad too if that were to happen since I've been using it as a tool to learn mandarin and to update myself on Chinese actors that I like. Although I guess it's okay since Douyin already opened itself to foreigners but Rednote is still so much better.

I’m ethnically Chinese (but not a resident of china) and they have also banned me lol. I think this is what the platform is doing to placate the govt unfortunately.

It was fun while it lasted

I’m verified with my ID as an original content creator on XHS. I’m American, not Chinese in any capacity.

This app has truly changed my life. I started learning chinese, I have read about old China and new China. I have also had some amazing and eye opening exchanges with chinese netizens. I'm happy to see China's rise. I will be very disappointed if my access to the Chinese internet is cut off. Best regards from Scandinavia

Why wouldn’t you think this would be the outcome?

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
