Evasion and deflection newb needing help

I wonder if anyone could help me on the evasion front, I don't think I understand the basics of it all, and what I should be aiming for. This is coming from someone that sort of aims for high ES and high resistance builds usually, then I'm pretty safe. Although I do play the leech builds with BM or Sanguis on Amazon.

I wanted to make a tanky deadeye, and 'think' I might be able to do that if I go down the evasion+deflection+resistances route? Is that right? I'd like it to feel as durable as a ES or leech build. I think I've got enough divs to give it a go, but don't want to blow them and make a mess of it. IF the E+D+R approach from above would work, what sort of numbers should I be looking for? I've read around 30k evasion is good, not sure what to aim for on deflect, or if just being deflect pieces would be enough, so do I just buy all high Ev and deflect pieces as much as I can, and a high Ev Hyrri?

Pob is sort of telling me something about Ev/deflect being linked to accuracy, but I don't understand what it's saying, and I'll be using a spear not a bow with no accuracy stat on it.

I've tried looking at poeninja, but I can't make head nor tail of how people are getting high deflect as sometimes they've got the stat on kit, other times they haven't got deflect on anything, and I can't see them having it on the tree either, it's all confusing.

Evasion works on a curve. The higher your evasion, the more you need to increase your evasion chance.

Deflection is just a chance to reduce the damage you take if you get hit. The default is 40% damage reduction.

If you have 70% evasion, with 50% deflection chance, on the 30% occasion you get hit, it has a 50% chance of reducing that damage by the default 40% (this is modifiable from nodes on the tree).

Keep in mind that evasion in POE2 is entropy based, meaning that the more hits you dodge, the more likely you'll get hit eventually. So, you could say it's not true evasion, more so pseudo evasion.

That's why deflection rating is extremely important to survivability in full evasion builds.

You can get deflection rating from the skill tree, and from all evasion armor pieces (including es/eva) in the form of "gain x% of evasion as deflection rating."

If you're curious about the ES vs other defense layers, its because ES is a pool like max life, unlike armor and evasion. This means any ES scaling you have is immediately effective and reliable. You can take bigger hits with full ES.

Unfortunately, armor and evasion have to rely on the health pool, which has little to no max life scaling in the tree.

So you see some players run es/eva to up their effective health pool as much as possible, and high end builds can run stuff like 80% eva with 60% deflection rating, with 46% damage reduction on deflected hits, while maintaining a 6k ES pool.

I have roughly 75% evasion and deflection, with deflection taking off 49% of damage, and I am extremely tanky. I don't die unless I fuck up vs a boss.

I also have maxed res, plus the Pathfinder evasion res node that I admit I don't fully understand lol. But since they introduced deflection this combo has been extremely strong imo and ime. Does require a number of nodes on the tree but considering I am taking a large number of poison nodes too, I would say it's not disruptive.

Edit - I have es on my helmet since I can easily reach the relavent node, and I decided to get some on my boots because es+ev boots didn't drop my evasion down much but the 130 or so es does a lot for me with all the es nodes I have. My chest is full es but I don't have the relevant node, takes too much investment and since pf can now branch off the witch starting spot you can get more es that way based on my numbers. (might check this again due to the jewel spot but... I really don't think it's worth it)

Lots use the unique chest, hyrri? I think, but I needed resists and also for some reason I just don't like the notion that I lose the bonus when I get hit, because I'm pretty sure you take little pot shots a lot they just don't end up mattering, but with that chest it'd lower your evasion a bunch. But it's the obvious way to go if you can spare the resists (I need unique gloves and prefer headhunter to hyrris since I'm having zero issue atm surviving anyway)

Sorry for the ramble lol, if you want a pob or anything I can link when I get home.

I'd like it to feel as durable as a ES or leech build.

It won't. The nature of EV only build is you'll die randomly occasionally.

There's always the risk of no evade, no deflect, oneshot. I experienced that enough that I invested heavily into ES/evasion/deflect hybrid and been a lot less frustrated since.

Here’s my oil grenade pathfinder, mostly ev/defl with some armour, pob says I can get just over 100k ehp with windancer and triggered passive nodes

Pathfinder does have the ascendency node that’s gives elemental reduction based on evasion, like the armour elemental reduction, so you can get 90% reduced elemental hit damage with enough evasion

the accuracy part of your post is about the enemy. for example, if you blind enemies, they have lower accuracy, making your evasion more potent.

The evasion/deflect rating in tooltip is calculated off base accuracy for a monster at your level capping at 82 - 2114 accuracy. From the dive I did into accuracy numbers uniques seem to have a 2x accuracy monster modifiers, so blind and blind effect seem extremely important.

I stacked up to 95% deflect in an armour stacker, so it’s very obvious when a deflect did or did not occur. I did a lot of limit testing on xesht because he has a lot of unblockable attacks and 95% deflect feels like 85% in reality. It just is not as reliable as you’d hope and is definitely not an absolute damage mitigation layer, and should be treated as such. Unless you can get to 99% + blind, i’d go with some energy shield to give you a lot more protection against 1 shots.

More like this

I decided to try stacking energy shield - at minimum level.

I decided to try stacking energy shield - at minimum level.

I got bored at this stage in the league and decided to spend many of my hard earned divines on a small project. Wouldn't it be funny to stack Energy shield for a min-level char? [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027) Tabula rasa has relevant jewel mods noted on it in POB so the math actually works out since it doesn't seem to work properly in POB. second screenshot is with a lvl 29 discipline aura with 36% increased aura magnitude - I didn't wanna spend another several thousand divines on a support character, I just wanted to see how well it would work theoretically >3000 ES without aurabot is possible, however, its basically impossible in practice. As of now, there are \*18\* 2 socket uncorrupted crown of thorns left on trade - on average it takes \~11 to hit a 30% and then another 1 in 3 to get a 3 socket one. Hitting a double corrupt on said 3 socket would be better then my current one, but that's not plausible sadly. Same for the boots. Hitting a better double corrupt on the gloves and focus would likely be plausible, but I couldn't buy more bases from Finn. Grip of Kulemak 59% ES \*should\* be possible, but it already took me over 40 attempts to hit 57% so I think I'll just leave it as is. Belt I didn't find any other way besides the 25% corrupt to get ES without a level requirement - if anyone has any idea tell me. Amulet could sanctify for 19/19 but again, would require silly amounts of currency (each try is \~30 div as is with annoint + sanctify + quality). I \*think\* patient barrier should be best annoint, but correct me if I'm wrong. Total investment into this character so far is about 3000 divines, probably a bit more. further thoughts \- maximum technically possible is 3112 ES at level 2 unless I'm missing something important. POB [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a) \- doubting this but: is it possible to get an ascendency at this low level by skipping straight to geonor with a helper? In which case it might be possible that xp penalties kicking it would allow me to ascend at lvl 2? This would allow +20% +20% (ascendency) +60% (jewel) ES, which would get me to 3218 ES (actual build) / 3732 ES (max technically possible) Did I miss anything?

Rakiata who?

Rakiata who?

I made an elemental crossbow varashta sorc this season as my starting build (goal was to exploit yoke of suffering's full potential, you can find poe ninja below, don't be fooled by the dmg tooltip, it kill ubers before they can move) and so since I was in the intel side of the tree I used my weapon swap to maximize exposure (with whispering ice) and curse magnitude. Here with some non-optimized gear I'm reaching a total of -338% res (that's -169% on bosses), meaning it's better than rakiata's. I use cursed ground support to apply the curse and icestorm (which comes with the staff) with prolonged duration and potent exposure to make the exposure last longer. This tech doesn't require much investment apart from your weapon swap and a few sockets at most so it can be plugged into many elemental builds. As it is now, it requires you to cast the spells with your weapon swap, so I use it mostly for bosses, but i might cast icestorm on bulky rares in juiced maps once in a while. If you have a skill dedicated for mapping, it'll propably better to use rakiata on it, and remove it or use another skill for bosses. Here's the poeninja: [https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala](https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala) I might make a build showcase if people are interested, it's a fun league starter build. With yoke and the electrocution node on the tree, enemies have 120% damage taken, more if they're cursed, on top of the giant res drop, plus you benefit from a lot of the "damage against enemies with ailments nodes" so that's why the tooltip is low (explosive grenades indicate 60k in game but they hit bosses for like 2M) at first I was playing with permafrost bolt with frost nexus + navira's fracture + fragmentation rounds, it was a fun combo and really strong for leveling but I couldn't scale navira's fracture damage in late game (I had command + minion nodes on my second weapon instead of the curse/exposure at the time) Hope this inspires some of you!
