VAAL Beginner -- what do I do in the temple?

I have dipped into the standard POE2 a couple times. I thought I'd try the 'VAAL' version.

I'm a beginner, really.

Main difference I notice is the appearance of circles on each map. And when you kill the mobs a treasure chest appears.

But now -- in 'Act 1, Mausoleum of the Praetor' -- I see a big burning thing called 'Vaal Ruins'. I can click on it and I enter a new dungeon. There's a 'Temple Console' which tells me to place a room...

No instructions.

(Funny, really, we have to hear these NPC's blab on about all kinds of dumb stuff, but this game mechanic? Nothing. LOL)

I went to Google it. And YT it, but all I find are really advanced guides on snakes and stuff. Even the ones that say 'beginner' seem to be way beyond where I am in Act 1.

Can anyone please tell me what I'm supposed to do.

And if there is any point? Do they advance me in any way, or give me any goodies?

I play hardcore by default -- games like this seem pointless if you die and start again at the same point -- so I don't want to accidentally die to something big and unexpected, I'm a cautious player.

Or do I sneak out and get on with the game, and leave these Temples to themselves?

Guardhouse - Depot - Guardhouse

And then pray to have a spymaster.

Temples aren't that much harder than the content you're currently doing when they open. If you want to be super cautious just don't upgrade any of the rooms to level 3

Generally you want to path to the architect, kill him over and over until you get medalion slots and extra crystal slots. Then you want to kill the architect to destroy your temple and start a chain.

Thanks guys, but I'm still none the wiser.

What do I do? IS there a guide somewhere?

Don't overthink it in the campaign, or as a new player. Go in drop some tiles clear some rooms and leave.

When you're in the end game you can minmax it to provide the best source of currency in the game. Until then it's pretty unfulfilling, and you would not be missing out on much if you ignore it until the end game.
