Your thoughts on this league’s economy

I’ve seen many people with very different opinions about this league’s economy, the major subject being the temple farm and currency inflation.

I am very curious of what you guys think of it !

My personal opinion :

I think this league economy was very enjoyable as a semi-hardcore player. I do not believe inflation is inherently bad as long as systems are overall balanced. IMO having basically « exalted orbs replaced by divines » (kind of a reach but you get the idea) doesn’t change much, items that you could not get from temple are still essential, which made them very expensive and overall balanced the crafting economy.

I invested a lot in crafting and got good returns, never farmed temple (only abyss farm) and got pretty wealthy, so I did not felt like FOMO on temple, at all.

I might and probably is wrong on some of my takes, but I enjoyed it so for me that’s the essential, and that’s also why I want your opinions :)

English is not my first language, I hope I still make sense

Best we’ve had. Was finally worth leaving your hideout as a solo player.

It's an economy of all time. I think the market week 1-3 before all the temple stuff was going down was pretty good, if accelerating very fast (like 0.3). After the nerfs and buffs to temple the market volatility was really annoying but it seems like things have settled since then a lot.

I went back and played a few weeks of poe1 after and was surprised how stable it was. It has since shifted a bit but its clear that asynch trade is the best/worst thing to happen to the game. Best in that it keeps small economies alive and worst that it accelerates leagues to an insane degree, which rewards nolifing week 1 even harder. The whole "rich get richer but rising tides raise all boats" sort of deal.

I think a lot of people here have a warped sense of the economy because they played the league for so long. After GGG was done with multiple rounds of changes to the temple and the back and forth 80% or so of players were already done with the league. It's always easier to make currency when most people are done because there is less competition and generally people stop caring about spending currency when they quit soon anyway.

Anyone who fully optimized their temple after GGG reverting the nerfs was already part of the last 10-20% of players left. That economy is nothing like the first few weeks, temple or not.

I really love the economy this league for a couple of reasons.

  1. Despite the deflation of the value of divines, actual gear is no harder to get than usual. Prices are high, but it's easy to make currency. So there isn't much downside there.

  2. Because currency itself is more common, endgame crafting is a bit more accessible than it otherwise would be. I've very rarely used divines for their actual purpose in previous leagues, whereas I've done it quite a bit in this league.

  3. Until now, PoE2 has lacked a steady farming strategy. PoE1, for example, has Harvest. You can focus entirely on running harvest at the endgame and make currency at a very consistent rate. If you know you need X divs to buy something, you can pretty accurately estimate how much time it will take to farm that amount if you are running Harvest. In PoE2, everything is hit or miss. If you are bossing you are probably losing currency until you hit that high end drop, which is worth a ton. If you are farming lineage supports you're losing currency until you hit rakiatas or garukhans or whatever. Crisis fragments are steadier, but you're still beholden to finding clusters of citadels on the map. Ritual is VERY hit or miss. Abyss would also be very hit or miss if it wasn't for the weird Amanamu's Void stuff this league, which I think is probably a bug. Logbook/splinter farming is steady but in past leagues it hasn't been very competitive as a strategy.

The only ways I have found that very consistently earn div at a steady rate are selling services on TFT and, in the very first patch only, running Sekhemas and selling Against the Darkness unID'ed (which is no longer possible).

Now, Vaal Temple has finally provided a farming method that is very consistent in its returns. When I sit down for a play session, I know there's a bare minimum that I'm going to be able to grind over that time.

Personally, I vastly prefer a steady grind with a small chance of jackpots to an uneven grind that is more reliant on jackpots, so this league has been a godsend for me.

The fact I actually used divine orbs on gear instead of just trading with them was really fun. Divines to exalted orbs ratio stayed solid the entire league so far which hasn’t happened in any other league.

I think they should play around with it some, and maybe instead of crazy nerfing the temple. Maybe giving the temple a needed change or three. Then buff the other stuff to bring it up, instead of just bring the temple down. Let’s meet in the middle somewhere. The extra currency gave people extra currency to craft with. Lots of bricked items, and currency being used. Exactly what I’d assume the devs want, us to use our currency. Now there is more badass items on the market for people to buy. Sure it seems a tad inflated but there was ways to make some good currency and get some good stuff this league. And I think that’s cool, more people, using more, and getting more from that. People were able to experiment and have fun. A lot of that got handed down to newer players. Everyone this league got to try a headhunter and that’s cool. I think some changes need to be made, but I don’t see this as a failed league. Far from it, I see it as a possibility for more people to be involved in the higher level gameplay. And not get stuck on that wall as hard. I know I made it farther this season than I ever have before. And it’s not over yet. Whether or not this makes its way into the final game. It was a good experience on early access, because isn’t that what we are doing? Helping them mold their game into a perfect final product for 1.0 release.

I’m just gonna call the Temple the Federal Reserve from now because all they do to save the economy is increase the money supply.

I know the rising tide lifts all ships or whatever but having an insane temple is still a massive advantage for a player to have. Extremely easy leveling and consistently good loot from a consistent piece of content is very underrated. Most other things you can farm these days might seem crazy valuable but if it's done in a map, you can just multitask between that and getting crystals for another temple, so there's not much opportunity cost.

Another thing that people are ignoring is that a lot of content has a hefty entry fee these days. Want to farm rituals? If you're using good tablets (which are quite efficient) that'll put you tens of divines in the hole before you even enter the first map. Same with all the pinnacle bosses. Their entry prices skyrocketed because they have maybe a couple things worth a lot and people like to gamble (e.g. Trialmaster fragments being so expensive bc of The Adorned). If you're well-established in terms of wealth, you can afford some unlucky streaks, but if not? A lot of the most profitable farms outside of temple will be prohibitively expensive for a newer player to even attempt. I think that's a huge problem.

People should not have to be told "No, don't use this fragment for its intended purpose, you're extremely likely to lose currency if you do, just sell it". Engaging with the pinnacle content in the game is an enormous mistake economically if you're new, which is so unfortunate because those are the people who probably want to see everything the game has to offer.

For me, pretty much the same as all other leagues, except higher numbers. I cleared all content just like earlier leagues, but at some point just don't have enough capital to buy upgrades, no matter the economy. I guess I kind of cap out at similar level each league. Although temple is making it easier to reach lvl100 due to xp and the gold is plentiful. I had more time to play this league also, so hard to compare. I have more dps and feel more powerful than previous leagues, but I also invested more time.

Jank. Not fun to not get a dopamine hit from a tsjink. I don't think there is a difference between my relative wealth between other leagues either. We just think we're all balling cause we have 2.5k divs in stash. But in reality I'm just as far from a mirror as I always am.
