Wisps and such?

So I'm trying mechanics I've never focused on before.

I loved Abyss in PoE1, so I'm digging it now in 2. Also never really tried wisps. If I want to compound these two mechanics, barring the tablet for boss wisps: Should I be leaving the wisps alone until I clean out regular Rares, then open the abyss portals? THEN go find the wisps and bring them back??

If there's an easier way of doing it that I'm missing I'd love to know.
