PSA: if you're broke in the new league check if you have a Level 8 spirit gem

What is the reason for this? I know the supply and demand part, but is there a reason why someone would like to have level 8 instead of whatever higher level that is cheaper? I also know about level requirement, but if there is another reason for this?

Yep. These are valuable, as well as level 14 gems, which is the minimum level to use Cast On Critical. Very few drop in the campaign, and most players elect to just use them to level up their own skills vs sell them. So when players get to end game and trying to set up CoC, there’s significantly more demand than supply.

I'd often farm the dreadnaught in act 2 for these. Makes for a really solid early game farm for newbies like me lol

Ahh yes, super annoying if you’re playing a monk and want to swap to resolute technique and frenzy charge and you haven’t dropped a lvl 8 spirit gem yet, luckily you can pivot to hollow palm until youre able to use a higher gem

The lvl 4 one is also quite expensive, but I do wonder if it's just because people are using divs like they are exalts this season
