I’ve been using a bow this season, and have regularly used the rune that says “bow attacks fire an additional arrow”. But I noticed that pretty much every bow on the market is using iron runes. My assumption was that an extra arrow would double DPS, but maybe I’m wrong. Does anyone know exactly how the additional arrow mechanic works?
They list them on the market with iron rune because it raises the physical damage numbers and is cheap.
Most attacks that shoot multiple projectiles do not have an inherent "shotgunning" effect, therefore additional arrows is typically a QoL stat for clear. Lightning Rod is one of the few exceptions that does directly scale with additional projectiles.
Some skills that do have shotgunning built in are heavily based on stacking additional projectiles, Tornado Shot in PoE is a great example of this.
