I can’t figure out why, but suddenly blasphemy stopped working. plenty of spirit and I tried turning the aura off and on, but nothing I do allows temporal chains to effect enemies near by.
is there some kind of caveat I’m missing? I’m playing witch and have the passive skill that even allows two curses.

Are you sure the Temporal Chains is a high enough level? Curses are only allowed to affect a certain monster level, and enemies higher level than that aren't affected. You need level 18 Temporal Chains to be able to affect all enemies.
Probably your skills level is too low for the monsters you are currently fighting. Upgrade your skills and it should work again.
If the visual is there but there is no effect, your skill gem is too low.
If the aura outright doesn't work, you probably have a stat deficiency.
Skill Gems like this just stop working some times.
Go into skills panel and make sure the skill inserted into Blasphemy is check marked for both weapon slots.
Otherwise, you gotta recut your Blasphemy gem.
