Really demotivated by crafting

TLDR: crafting is really off-putting for me, it seems a lot like gambling with little control once you want to upgrade after some basic crafts. There a few routes that are semi deterministic but the rest seems to be total RNG or you need to rely on so much currency that you push through the RNG until the desired outcome appears. I really like the idea of self crafting my own stuff but in the end it always seem very boring or extremely expensive and overall not worth doing when you can simply buy stuff.

Maybe it's only me but every time I decide that I would like to become a better crafter I give up and ended up trading for stuff.

After minmaxing my first character with a bankroll of something like 1-1.5k divs but with the possibility of farming 100 div/h i decided to reroll:

https://poe.ninja/poe2/builds/vaal/character/Darknoob-1135/Glabrevovich?i=0&search=class%3DWitchhunter%26name%3Dglab

My goal for this character was to self craft starting from magic bases that I was allowing myself to purchase as well as uniques or jewels.

I started in SSF for the campaign because I don't like to do twink runs and then moved to trade once in maps. Once in red maps I managed to self craft some pieces (ring, boots and gloves are self crafted from that time) but then I hit a giant wall for amulets and weapons.

The crafting method I was using for my xbow was starting from a magic base with T2 %Phys, greater essence for flat phys, slam a final prefix with perfect ex and then fix the suffixes with +5 levels, Onsgault on kill + desecration for the last suffix. Arguably I can desecrate for the last prefix and start with a chosen suffix like AS but I didn't like the idea of having to never hit it with essences.

I was very lucky with a decent DPS xbow but at some point I realized that I needed to switch to crit and I had no idea how to craft such a weapon. I completely gave up on the project and bought the xbow I'm currently using.

If I want to upgrade now, I probably need higher crit and a +7 natural roll and I even less of an idea on how to do it. If I want to upgrade my boots and my gloves I'm in a similar predicament. The only crafting I could realistically do as an upgrade could be my ring because the crafting recipe is the same, I only have to get a bit more lucky with the omen of catalysis.

For amulet, complete mute point, it seems impossible to approach a craft like the one that I'm wearing, a possible upgrade to that would be only crit chance but for that I think I can just spam omen of light over and over.

I would like to end up appreciating crafting cause I think it would be a fun part of the game and something cool to learn (also because not every league would be so plentiful as this one) but at the moment beside something very basic like starting from a base + essence to rare + desecration I'm completely lost and doesn't feel enjoyable.

I like PoE, but I have no interest in learning the crafting system in both PoEs. To me it's very complex and expensive. I'm okay playing some seasons spending just few divines and that's it. If the gaming is ok with guys selling several itens for 300 divines, making 500 Mirrors of Kalandra per season and inflating the economy, it's not my problem.

I just wish theyd take a piece from last epoch and make it so drops are slightly boosted in ssf. It sucks that i can never make mirror tier gear because getting enough currency would take an entire league of non-stop grinding

Game is balanced around trade, not crafting for better or worse

Crafting isn't for everyone. Non experts with the system will usually spend more currency than it costs to buy the same or better item. That said, it can be rewarding crafting your own gear and you will get better with it as you learn so don't give up!

Someone gave good advice for crafting. Pick 1 item type a season. Starting with something simple. Boots for example. And just learn that. Then next season learn 1 more.

Here is the easiest way to do it from blue. Buy a phys % xbow with crit or ias that is blue. Add crit or ias with greater essence. Desecrate suffix and fracture before reveal. Hope for crit or phys%. Then reveal to see if you get +6-7 but you won’t. dextral crystal add p essence of battle to roll off desecration and avoid light omen with +5. P ex a prefix hoping for flat or hybrid, don’t hit most likely so add gain as % with p essence then finish for flat phys on desecration. This is an easy craft:

The recomber is OP and very important when it comes to SSF. It's also just incredibly bad RNG, so you have to get super lucky to get the desired outcome, and then super lucky again with the further crafting/slams from there. Ofc essences help, but yea it's not easy. Two good examples to look at for good SSF crafters would be Pohx and Prada

I have a combined 6000 hours across both games, only play SSF, and I don't craft beyond the basics. 2 good mods, essence, desecrate, double slam, done. It's good enough sometimes, if not I'll try again later if I'm enjoying the build. If not, on to the next build. Play a few builds, season done, try again next league. Next league I compare myself to my builds in the previous league. Not to other players, especially not to streamers. 4 good mods is generally enough for the content I want to do, anything more is a nice bonus. It leaves challenging and aspirational content on the table which extends the life of the game I love.

Yes because the game is never balanced around SSF. That's a "challenge" mode you play knowing that it's not going to feel smooth.

If you were around last league you would have seen how crap trade league is when crafting gets too deterministic (if you weren't in SSF I guess).
