New Player - Can you help fix my build?

Hi all, I'm new to the game, so I looked up a cool build and have been following it throughout the campaign, so far so good.. until now. I struggled to beat Tavakai.. like really struggled, due to getting one shot and dealing little damage. Now I'm in the interlude getting manhandled. I wanted to ask for build advice as I feel very squishy and have low dps.

Here's my build link https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/TW1G-0829/character/Cogito

Thanks again!

Your resistances are what needs to be fixed the most. But getting +levels on weapon and amulet will help with damage. You're also missing some good permanent buffs from the campaign.

Get a staff with + all spells and extra damage as something, that will help a lot, and your armour is low on the old energy shield front try a higher ES with some resistances and you shoukd be good

Just a couple things I noticed, the most important stat by a long shot on your weapons and amulet is +level to spell skills.

Are you manually casting comet? That’s not typically done, it’s too slow.

Crit is better at end game, it’s more effective to stack base damages early on and then transition into crit or mana stacking or something to scale.

Do you have a link to the guide you were following? We might be able to help you get where you are headed if we saw the road you are on :) Looks like you are doing a lot right, I'll point out a few of the things that jump out to me that you could improve on:

Getting boots with movement speed will not only make the game feel better, but it'll let you position to dodge those one shots a lot easier. See if you can find a useful pair with 20% or better? It is pretty much a must-have stat.

I would first say backtrack in the acts to The Spires of Deshar and Jiquani's Machinarium to pick up the side quest events there. They'll give you permanent buffs of 10% to lightning res, and 10% to cold res, respectively. That is some free defense right there, but it can be easy to miss.

Speaking of resistances, having negative res will make you feel really squishy. You are on -42% cold res at the moment for example, which is amplifying all the cold damage you take, if a snowflake lands on you it'll probably one shot ;) Try to get all of those at least above 0, getting into the +30% range will feel a lot more stable. And the higher you get them from there the better you'll feel vs elemental damage, once you get to the 75% cap you'll mitigate a lot of damage and stretch your life pool further.

Get more ES, get more resistances. Ditch the maligaro's gloves and find some with resistances and energy shield. Go for spark as your main damage delivery skill. Wait with crit gear and passive nodes. Crit isn't good before you reach 60%+ crit chance. And you don't do that before lvl 80+. Put everything into elemental damage for now, and later switch to crit.

When you have 3,5-4k energy shield, take chaos inoculation node. Then you don't have to bother with life on items, focus only on energy shield. Faster start and recharge rate is also important for survival.

+5 all skills on staff should carry you through campaign. You also have +2on amulet, that should be plenty enough. Your staff also has increased spell damage, so it isn't bad. You don't have "gain as extra damage" , but you should do fine without.

Dump pinpoint critical and pierce on spark, get "considered casting" and "deliberation" or projectile acceleration. Pierce can be nice later when your spark damage is higher. For now boosting spark damage is more important.

Here is my castp on crit spark build, I don't use comet, I like Arc better. And I had ember fuscillade for boss damage early on when my sparks were weak.

Drop passive points you have in crit chance and put them in something else. Either energy shield, mana or elemental damage.
