I was looking to find an upgrade to the Behemoth Mast (left). I've been going off of the animprincess CoC guide for my build. It has a trade filter setup for weighting staves. The Maelstrom Branch was weighted significantly higher on the filter but pretty much all of my tooltip DPS for skills has gone down significantly except my CoC comet which went up slightly. The Maelstrom Branch "feels better" when playing but I have no idea to really tell which one is better.
Tooltip dps will drop cause of the loss of the %increased spell damage affix, yeah, but the branch has an extra +1 to spells and 29% more spell crit chance. This is why PoB is a much better tool to compare items… the tooltip is a good generalization, but is not always accurate when min/maxing
Its because of the %increased spell damage
You have to use path of building application on your computer. You import your character and appropriately configure your character to really see the difference. You can then copy/paste items from trade site to see impacts on ur build

I used my PoB when i was staff shopping as i has so many choices and while some looked better at first sight, they weren't. I do the same with other items that are for sale. You just copy the text and import through custom text function in pob. Really recommend using it.
Some say increased spell damage is important because it increases the bucket that all multiplicative damage multiply. I am in the same dilemma, guess I need to find path of building too :)
