Question about Against the Darkness jewel

Does any build out there use one which doesn't have spirit or Gain extra damage mods? Why are the "notables also grant +1 to max (fire/cold/lightning) resist" priced at 60-70 divs? Aren't they just worthless? I'm sure there's use for them, but really who is buying these?
