What is in your opinion going wrong with this game that is supposedly be the best in charackter build variety. But every season you see the same 2 builds in late game. be it lightning spear first season. poison arrow previous season or this fuck up.

What is going wrong with this game, that whenever I am in a group, I see the same bloodmage spamming big colorful curse circle that burns the retina build. I seem to be the only one who uses spears to poison, or fire wolf, or big ol' hammer. lightning kung-fu girl who jumps around.

are we talking actual balance or your just looking at a few popular videos and thinking everybody is playing that.

stop thinking just cause you see a few streamers/videos of a build that everybody is also playing same thing. they arent 99% of people will be playing varied builds.

like does it really matter what everybody else is playing. stop putting so much value in what others are doing for you to enjoy what you are doing in what is predominantly a solo game.

also the league is 3 months in. the people left are mostly just a few casual players or more extremely must make my dps number go as high as possible type people which leads to very skewed metrics.

also to top all of this off the game is not yet fully fleshed out. we have barely even half the skills that will be here in 1.0 we have several classes missing with very important weapon types and spells. all these mean your going to see a limited scope

There is a ton of character build variety tbh. There’s just always a few builds that push numbers to the absolute limit.

Because a lot of people just naturally gravitate towards builds that are advertised as strong? Even in the 10yo PoE 1 you had leagues where almost 50% on PoEninja were playing a single class. That's just part of the PoE community culture and balancing ebb&flow.

Lack of classes, skills and years of balance just amplifies it in PoE 2.

Lowkey, that is just because most people are sheep. They see a flashy video about the best build and only go for that. There will always be a best build in any season/meta. But there are plenty other builds that are completely fine, viable, smooth, whatever. I am playing bleed ritualist in T16 maps no problem and I am not remotely done scaling my character. There are plenty more that work. But people only go for the best of the best. I also think a lot of people are afraid of making their own builds, either because they could mess it up or because they just lack the creativity. Most just like to follow what's popular.

Just continue your poison spear (I would actually be interested in that!), fire wolf or whatever build.

Metas gonna meta bro. Path of least resistance players will gravitate to what works, or what's shown to work and is popular with streamers.

I personally ended up on a titan throwing out flash and explosive grenades and had a blast this past league.

I have tried to look at other builds, but end up back on the titan.

The real question is, why does it matter? I haven’t played the most meta build in any of the leagues so far and have been able to complete all content just fine. I even played LS Amazon AFTER it was nerfed into the ground and it was fine. Expecting it to have hundreds of builds when we’re missing several classes/weapons not to mention the endgame rework next league that will surely come with a suite of new uniques that will be build defining. It’s fine.

Lighting spear is still very very good in .04. You just have tunnel vision of what is good and what isnt.

Because you're playing in a group. Check Poe ninja and you will see that players have reached level 100 with a wide variety of builds, even in hardcore or SSF.

First of all, you don't see a majority of builds. People have to manually import their characters to poeninja, and how many people's builds do you see outside of that? Maybe 10-15 videos from content creators, 20 from reddit, and like 5 from normal gameplay (public parties?). There are probably insane builds that have 10 views on youtube, with only one person playing them.

The other reason is because PoE2 isn't deep enough yet to have real, good niche options. I can think of 10 builds that are good at all budgets, and can do all content, but comet comes online much faster for cheaper and easier, on multiple different ascendancies, and with good defences, along with the highest ceiling.

Most options just end up having too many opportunity costs, or do not completely fit the requirements of a meta build. Shield wall is tanky, and does a ton of damage, but is slow. Lightning spear is fast, reasonably tanky, but lacks the damage that temples require. Hollow palm is insanely fast, and very tanky, but again, lacks the damage that other options offer for cheaper.

Of course, all of these builds function at a higher investment, and these problems are solvable, but most people don't want to solve problems. They want a build that just works right out of the gate, and rips through content, which is why bm is so broken. 1k max hp from a 1k es body armour, easy capped crit for all spells, and infinite casting resource from leech. It's an insanely boring option, but it's strong because it hits all the basics.

This is a very interesting example in what is wrong with the Poe community (1 and 2), where the opinions are utterly divorced from reality because of the streamer effect. This actively harms the playerbase because people like OP take a reductive analysis that was spoonfed to them and feel their behaviour is compelled based on it instead of feeling empowered to figure out things for themselves.

OP asked what's going wrong this this game, and they helpfully provided the answer to their own question.

I decided to try stacking energy shield - at minimum level.

I got bored at this stage in the league and decided to spend many of my hard earned divines on a small project. Wouldn't it be funny to stack Energy shield for a min-level char? [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027) Tabula rasa has relevant jewel mods noted on it in POB so the math actually works out since it doesn't seem to work properly in POB. second screenshot is with a lvl 29 discipline aura with 36% increased aura magnitude - I didn't wanna spend another several thousand divines on a support character, I just wanted to see how well it would work theoretically >3000 ES without aurabot is possible, however, its basically impossible in practice. As of now, there are \*18\* 2 socket uncorrupted crown of thorns left on trade - on average it takes \~11 to hit a 30% and then another 1 in 3 to get a 3 socket one. Hitting a double corrupt on said 3 socket would be better then my current one, but that's not plausible sadly. Same for the boots. Hitting a better double corrupt on the gloves and focus would likely be plausible, but I couldn't buy more bases from Finn. Grip of Kulemak 59% ES \*should\* be possible, but it already took me over 40 attempts to hit 57% so I think I'll just leave it as is. Belt I didn't find any other way besides the 25% corrupt to get ES without a level requirement - if anyone has any idea tell me. Amulet could sanctify for 19/19 but again, would require silly amounts of currency (each try is \~30 div as is with annoint + sanctify + quality). I \*think\* patient barrier should be best annoint, but correct me if I'm wrong. Total investment into this character so far is about 3000 divines, probably a bit more. further thoughts \- maximum technically possible is 3112 ES at level 2 unless I'm missing something important. POB [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a) \- doubting this but: is it possible to get an ascendency at this low level by skipping straight to geonor with a helper? In which case it might be possible that xp penalties kicking it would allow me to ascend at lvl 2? This would allow +20% +20% (ascendency) +60% (jewel) ES, which would get me to 3218 ES (actual build) / 3732 ES (max technically possible) Did I miss anything?

Rakiata who?

Rakiata who?

I made an elemental crossbow varashta sorc this season as my starting build (goal was to exploit yoke of suffering's full potential, you can find poe ninja below, don't be fooled by the dmg tooltip, it kill ubers before they can move) and so since I was in the intel side of the tree I used my weapon swap to maximize exposure (with whispering ice) and curse magnitude. Here with some non-optimized gear I'm reaching a total of -338% res (that's -169% on bosses), meaning it's better than rakiata's. I use cursed ground support to apply the curse and icestorm (which comes with the staff) with prolonged duration and potent exposure to make the exposure last longer. This tech doesn't require much investment apart from your weapon swap and a few sockets at most so it can be plugged into many elemental builds. As it is now, it requires you to cast the spells with your weapon swap, so I use it mostly for bosses, but i might cast icestorm on bulky rares in juiced maps once in a while. If you have a skill dedicated for mapping, it'll propably better to use rakiata on it, and remove it or use another skill for bosses. Here's the poeninja: [https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala](https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala) I might make a build showcase if people are interested, it's a fun league starter build. With yoke and the electrocution node on the tree, enemies have 120% damage taken, more if they're cursed, on top of the giant res drop, plus you benefit from a lot of the "damage against enemies with ailments nodes" so that's why the tooltip is low (explosive grenades indicate 60k in game but they hit bosses for like 2M) at first I was playing with permafrost bolt with frost nexus + navira's fracture + fragmentation rounds, it was a fun combo and really strong for leveling but I couldn't scale navira's fracture damage in late game (I had command + minion nodes on my second weapon instead of the curse/exposure at the time) Hope this inspires some of you!
