In my ~30 years of gaming, I have never hated anything with the passionate fervor with which I despise Proximal Tangibility.

I'm a pretty level headed guy, usually. Not the type to get all bent out of shape over a tough video game mechanic.

Proximal Tangibility is different.

It has me absolutely seething every single time. Literally screaming obscenities at my monitor. Threats. Promises.

Now, I'm not opposed to its functionality. It doesn't get me killed or leave me with unkillable rares.

It annoys the everliving @#%! out of me.

The "this enemy has to be damaged in close range" thing is fine. It's a pain in the ass for some builds, but that's what map/rare mods are for. That's fine. Keep that.

Just do it better. It is implemented so, so, SO poorly, it makes me want to rip my eyelashes out.

What's the range? Like half a meter? It feels like I have to be literally inside the enemy to do them damage. That's ridiculous. This shit should be a PRESENCE modifier and be 3-4m, not "now kiss."

There are like, 5 other modifiers that looks sort of like Proximal Tangibility, which to be fair, basically doesn't look any different than a regular monster.

This should be one of the MOST OBVIOUS MODS in the entire list.

It doesn't even get special colored text?

What game does GGG think people are playing where we have anywhere close to the fraction of a second it takes to read a list of modifiers? They have not given us a game where we have time to read things. They have given us a game that kills us in 0.0025 seconds if we stop paying attention to the 5000 things happening at once.

Where's the equalizer? Where is the "can't be damaged in close range" one that fucks over the other builds in the same capacity? We don't think its challenging to make the tanky characters step back and try to kill something at range? We'd rather force the squishy characters to go inside the body of rare enemies instead?

It's just.... Who is in charge here?

TL;DR

Proximal Tangibility needs a larger radius in which you can do damage, and needs to be one of the easiest mods to notice on a rare enemy. They should be glowing pink with a circle around them or something, not "kinda gray? maybe? I dunno, maybe try and read it?" and if you wanna mess up ranged characters SO BAD, why not give melee a taste too? Share the love.

"if you wanna mess up ranged characters SO BAD, why not give melee a taste too? Share the love."

Shade walker, kurgal's last grasp, temporal bubble, breaks armour, trail of fire/ice/lightning, magma barrier(IMP). Oh no? Proximal tangibility???

I used to get annoyed/die to it when I first started playing the game. Now I can’t not see the mob that has proximity tangibility. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

This game requires more than one layer of defense, sounds to me that’s your issue.

Ranged or not it’s one of the easiest mechanics to deal with in the game.

It's fine, never had any issues with minimal investment in def. Go play LE if if you don't like building any defences and just go through game without any punishment.

"Literally screaming obscenities at my monitor. Threats. Promises."

This shit had me cackling lolol. I fucking feel that, but for me its the fucking shield guys that return your projectiles with thier skulls they shoot out. Especially when you get the map mod that they shoot out extra projectiles. You are coasting through a map before all of sudden youve got 5 million skulls flying out at you from off the screen before you have a chance to react.

Isn't this what ggg lives the most? Sometimes it feels like half of their staff is busy finding new intricate ways to make the game unpleasant, and then call it "friction" and say it's needed for the longevity of the game

But, even if I am furious at the game 40%of the playtime, I prefer ggg being stubborn and staying reasonably true to their vision. Unlike blizzard that listens to everything the lazy complainers say and dumb down the game a little more for each season passing. But, I dlnt like that they didn't deliver on their promise of meaningful combat. Poe2 is now just a zoom zoom power creep game like Diablo 4 is. It just takes a little more effort and a bit longer time to get there. That's why I love act 1 and half of act 2 so much, unless you are very lucky with vendors or drops, you are weak enough to have to fight enemy mechanics. And that's nice

Don't worry, shround walker and head hunter belt will make sure you get within proximity of monster, whether you want to or not.

Can't say i agree with this, for the very reasons you mention right at the start:

It doesn't get me killed or leave me with unkillable rares.

It's not dangerous, it's pretty obvious when the mob isn't taking damage. Personally the visual effect is also pretty clear but I get that's subjective. Why clutter an already-cluttered game with more stuff?

As an exclusively non-melee player and someone who's been playing poe for over a decade, melee players do not need a taste of more inconvenience --- the proximity bubble is literally just forcing you to be melee for a little bit to give you some perspective of what melee players go through.

Yeah just wait until they have Proximal Tangibility and also the one that sucks all your mana. So you have to get in their bubble to do any damage to them, and when you do they just burn your mana instantly.

I had the thaumaturgy guy have prox... On my glass cannon archer. Need to stand on top of him to hit him.

Lucky it was temple so he didn't keep healing.
