The advice to just beat the temple over and over again is actually correct. You can hold ctrl in the room placement interface and it'll allow you to run the temple without placing a room, so you won't be constantly replacing the rooms that get deleted.
Even better though is running your Temple and beating The Architect, Atziri, or both, since that will lead to a bunch of rooms getting deleted all at once.
Before you delete everything and start over, are you able to hold 6 medallions and 60 crystals? Increased medallion and crystal capacity comes from defeating the Architect, and you definitely want to be at max capacity for both before you start seriously building.
The other thing to be aware of before you start building seriously (but after you've deleted most of the rooms you want to delete) is that for most/all of the more complex temple layouts you want the Architect in a specific spot which requires you to strategically place rooms/roads in such a way that he's forced to spawn in the spot you want. Basically, the architect wants to spawn in an open space that has at least one other space between the Architect and your next closest room.
What I did was delete almost all of my rooms until all I had was a road going up four squares from the entrance, and then placed rooms/roads in a square starting at that fourth road tile so that there was a 9X9 empty space in their center. Then you fight the architect and hope he spawns in the dead center of the square, and if he does, you can start building your first chain, otherwise rebuild the square and try again.
I know it sounds super daunting, and I was completely overwhelmed at first too, but watching LLYD's videos (zero to hero giga Temple and reconstructing the temple) helped me get the hang of it, and then just playing got me the rest of the way there.
Good luck!
