I believe I know why your X posts get 200 views and then flatline (and no its not the copy itself)
Most people think posts on X grow gradually.
From everything I’ve seen, they don’t.
They get tested early, and that test basically decides everything.
What seems to happen:
• A post gets shown to a small initial group
• The algorithm watches how fast people interact
• If engagement comes in quickly, it expands distribution
• If it doesn’t, the post just stalls, no lenience
And once it stalls, it’s really hard to recover.
That’s why you’ll see posts:
• spike early and keep going
• or die almost immediately
Not many posts “slow burn” their way up anymore.
The surprising part isn’t the engagement, it’s how fast it happens.
A post with decent engagement that comes in slowly seems to perform way worse than a post with strong early interaction. Post with strong early interaction seem to explode. No in between.
So it’s less about:
“How good is this post overall?”
And more about:
How strong is the first reaction to it.
Curious if others have seen the same thing, or if you think something else matters more early on.
