It's funny how humans manufactured a problem by constantly trying to kill each other. Imagine how far we'd be if we'd just stop trying to murder each other every second.
There is literally no reason these men and woman should have to he in a submarine for 7 months. Humans just decided, "what if... we kill each other for no reason?" And boom now they "have to."
