Is Rednote Quietly Erasing Queer Voices? How China's hottest social platform is shutting down LGBTQ and dating communities under the guise of "security risks"

I once created a group on Rednote for queer members, where I wrote about LGBTQ life, photography, and hookup stories. The content attracted steady traffic, with at least five new members joining daily. Unfortunately, the group was shut down by the platform's administrators under the vague reason of 'security risks.' I appealed multiple times, but none were successful. From what I've heard, receiving such a penalty is quite rare. Do you think Rednote's censorship is unfairly targeting queer, hookup, and dating content?

This isn't America. Mainland China is super strict and you do need to be aware of what's illegal while using Rednote. The only LGBT community that is open is in Taiwan though, you can try instagram with the Taiwan queer community but you will never be able to do things like this on a mainland app.

There are also many homosexuals in China, but they do not promote LGBT on public platforms. The platform maintains a respectful but not encouraging attitude. I guess this may be the reason for the ban, but it is not unfair treatment. Most young people in the young group think this is a normal thing.

Queer? No.

Dating? No.

Hookup? Yes.

Don’t even try to say it’s LGBTQ phobia man. Look into China’s strict pornography and sex industry laws. Prostitution is illegal in China. I’m guessing you probably didn’t know this and said some openly sexualizing hookup things in the group. THAT is the reason why it is banned. Prostitution is very easily fabricated into a “hookup” and prostitution is ,guess what? Illegal.

RedNote is fairly hostile for any advocacy group that isn’t explicitly Chinese nationalist. This includes but is not limited to groups or individuals who are outspoken for queer advocacy.

Censorship on RedNote is very real. Anyone who uses the app should be aware of the ridiculous rules before posting or commenting, or else risk being banned.

It's the same with divination and astrology; content allowed but it has to be subdued and not predictive, furthermore no groups are allowed. Same for WeChat.

LGBT can very quick transgress into sexualization, etc - or promotion of values that are opposing the societal development that CPC wants for China and chinese citizens.

No. Not at all. Chinese people know how to operate these kinds of groups.

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
