Real talk, the cold outreach game is mostly about research, not the message itself. If you’re sending the same generic script to 50 accounts, it’s almost guaranteed to get ignored or buried.
What actually works better is leading with value.
Start with a simple audit approach. Instead of asking for something right away, look for a small but real gap in what they’re doing, like a broken link, a missing caption, or something they could easily improve. Reach out just to point that out. It shows you’ve paid attention and aren’t just another random message.
Then build a bit of familiarity. Spend a few days engaging with their content in a genuine way. Like posts, leave thoughtful comments, and show up consistently so your name doesn’t feel completely new when you finally send a message.
When you do reach out, keep it short. Two or three sentences is enough. Ask something specific and easy to respond to, instead of a vague collaboration idea that puts all the effort on them.
It takes more effort per person, but the quality of responses is usually much higher compared to sending the same template to everyone.
