I analyzed 47 Instagram accounts for free out of curiosity. What I found genuinely shocked me.
This started as a weird hobby.
About 8 months ago I got obsessed with Instagram analytics. Not follower counts but the numbers hiding behind them. I started pulling data from random accounts just to see patterns.
Then I found an account that broke my brain.
Fitness creator. 938 followers. Posting consistently for 10 months. Really good content. His words to me were "I think I am shadowbanned, nobody watches my stuff."
I pulled his numbers.
His content had reached 233,000 people in the last 30 days alone.
The algorithm was pushing him hard. He was not shadowbanned at all. He was actually one of the most algorithmically favoured small accounts I had seen.
So why was he stuck at 938 followers?
I calculated his view to follow conversion. Basically out of everyone who saw his content, how many actually followed him.
It was 0.00058%.
Strong accounts hit around 1 to 3%.
233,000 people saw his content. Almost none followed. Not because the content was bad. Because nothing in the content told people WHY to follow. It felt like a one time watch, not a page worth subscribing to.
One positioning fix and his entire growth changes.
I have seen this pattern in dozens of accounts now. The follower count is almost never the real story. The real story is always in 4 or 5 numbers that most creators never look at.
I put together a free breakdown of the 10 numbers that actually matter for any Instagram account.
