She didn't need context, she wasn't talking about the meaning of the quote, she said those groups use that quote to justify their killing, which is true. Maybe you should teach them how to read the footnotes. Nobody's used the Bible for mass killing since the crusades.

God kills people every second of every day in every religion. Anyone religious is actually radical. They’re believing in something old people of the past wrote down to govern the people. Reading these texts as sacred law written by God is insane. Humans are fallible and even if God came down here the people would still write it down wrong.

Oh man we've gotten to the point where we have to explain what footnotes are, and that's not an elitist position to hold, like you should know what footnotes are.
