To the people who work as a social media strategist/content planners/marketers: What can I do to be the best applicant I can be for someone who’s graduating college in little over a year?

I’m a senior at a big university that’s graduating in December 2027.

I’ve been applying for internships throughout my junior year with no luck so far. I’m an Advertising major with a dual minor in Social Media Analytics and Digital Media. I am working with my Social Media team for my university newspaper. I’ve been taking relevant classes and trying to expand my skillset.

However, I’m still not able to get an internship due to the competitiveness of the market, even on campus. Despite my praises that I get each interview and putting my absolute best foot forward, it’s still not enough. I have a portfolio and even class projects with real clients to showcase my competencies.

This is the only career I can see myself doing. I want to be the very best that I can be. I want to work for an agency/company in a my cities of choice while being able to pay rent, feed myself and buy things that interest me while having a good work life balance. Ever since I took my first advertising class, it hooked me and I want a career in the field. I want to do everything I can to be as successful as possible, please tell me things I must do.

Honestly you already sound more prepared than a LOT of students applying for these roles.

You have:

  • relevant degree
  • analytics exposure
  • real projects
  • portfolio work
  • student media experience
  • actual enthusiasm for the field

That’s already stronger than many applicants who only have coursework.

And honestly, the internship market right now is just brutal. A lot of good candidates are competing for very limited spots, especially in creative/social roles.

One thing I’d focus on now is building proof outside school projects too.

Not necessarily becoming an influencer. But something that shows:

  • your taste
  • your thinking
  • your ability to understand audience behavior
  • your ability to communicate ideas

Because agencies LOVE seeing signs that someone is naturally immersed in internet culture/platform behavior.

Also huge underrated skill: being able to explain WHY content works.

Not just: “I made this post.”

But:

  • why the hook works
  • why the format fits the audience
  • why the pacing matters
  • what emotion it triggers
  • why the CTA exists

That strategic thinking makes junior candidates stand out fast.

And honestly, if you want to work in social/content long term, I’d prioritize:

  • copywriting
  • audience psychology
  • creative strategy
  • storytelling
  • platform behavior over obsessing about mastering every tool/software immediately.

Tools change constantly. People who understand human behavior stay valuable.

Any people that runs 100 to 10k followers pages (any social media)?

Hey all, I own a business that involves many clients that promote their product, art or website with TikTok (also Instagram, Youtube and Facebook). I want to offer them a way to post their content, or to get content created and posted for them on existing TikTok pages. Basically you got pages in a specific theme (sport, anime, cinema, culture, memes...) and you rent it for a specific period of time. You get paid every month, and all you have to do is basically connecting the account once to our system. You can opt-out anytime you want, you keep the full ownership of the account. That's basically a way to monetize your pages passively. For now I'm doing it myself with my own pages (3 tiktok pages with 500 to 3k followers, and 1 6k subscribers Youtube channel), I made around $800 renting these for less than a month.
