Who says it was ok for John Wayne to play Genghis Khan
This movie’s gotten more promotion from rage bait than from the actual marketing campaign
Does bro think Black Panther was based on a historical person?
Funny how the mythological symbol from Ancient Greece isn't valid enough to be like "yeah maybe we should cast someone who looks greek/is greek" but the black panther is.
as for white people playing non white characters I'd have the same arguments, I'm pretty sure John Wayne was ridiculed for it, and there is no excuse now when the world is so connected.
it's like if there was some Chinese mythological story I'd probably expect most of the roles to be Asian.
The whole point of Helen of Troy is that she's Greek and Spartan, so he kind of makes a point against his own argument. This is a Greek national myth. It's exactly like swapping Mansa Musa for Sean Connery or something stupid like that. Or yes, Tchalla for Ryan Gosling or Jason Momoa. People are reflexively defending it cause it feels racist to criticize, but it's about as offensive a cultural rewrite as any blatant swap of any quintessential mythical character.
I want Zheng He but played by Chris Rock next or better yet? Eddy Murphy, he has experience already and people endlessy bitched about him playing an animal from mythology with no ethnicity.
Hoooly low IQ culture war.
Get real.
I just don't care
I mean I guess being a Greek person it would have been nice to see more Greek actors/actresses in things. We basically have Jason Mantzoukas and the guy who played Lucifer on Lucifer. Idk. I get that Nolan is doing a high concept thing and she's a mythical figure but I cannot help feeling like I want representation as much as any other ethnic group
A marvel superheros ethnic identity it is important to the character but the Greek identity of the foundational mythology of western civilization isn't 😭 this can't be real
just stop blackwashing history
literally no one said Wayne playing Khan was okay, that's just a weak strawman argument
