Why are platforms still using manual ID checks instead of digital wallets?
I see more and more platforms implementing strict age verification to comply with new regulations. Currently, the standard seems to be asking users to upload a photo of their passport or ID.
This feels like a huge privacy risk for the user and a massive liability for the platform to store that data. With the rise of eIDAS2-compliant digital wallets in the EU, why aren't we seeing platforms switch to zero-knowledge verification?
It seems like a much cleaner solution for everyone involved. Are any of you seeing a shift toward wallet-based verification, or is manual ID checking still the only way forward for now?
