Somebody really needs to explain to me this whole, "Musk got there because of daddy's money" thing.

Is there a literal paper trail of his wealthy family funding his entire life up until selling paypal? Because I can't find it. Seriously: how much of his parents' money did Elon Musk inherit and make use of?

And let's not forget famously born-on-third-base wealthy folk like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, Kobe, Shaq, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Larry Page and Warren Buffett....

Net worth is based on the value of total assets. Musk's overall wealth is largely "paper wealth" tied directly to the stock performance and market values of these companies rather than actual cash. He does not have a trillion dollars sitting in the bank . The reason he is worth this much is because SpaceX went public , so it is based on the value of his stock in the company. Since he is the founder of Space X - which he began in 2002, he has the most shares.
He did not get rich from “ Daddy’s money”.
He cofounded Zip2 a software company, which he sold to Compaq for $300 million in 1999. Then he joined Tesla as an early investor in 2004. He has also helped fund or create several other ventures including Neurolink, xAI and even a tunneling firm, The Boring Company.

His father was an electromechanical engineer; he did not come from generational wealth . He accumulated his money through business investments; they were considered upper middle class- definitely not the uber rich. Errol Musk gave his son $28k to help him launch his first start up. That’s it.
