The dichotomy of opinions on this is striking. I’m guessing people who like it were around for late-90s to early 2000s internet humor such as Newgrounds, Ebaumsworld, etc. This has a very similar taste.

I think it's great people still make independent animations like this. And you know, sometimes it takes a few attempts to really find your sense of humor, but the more support we give to independent creators, the more likely the will be to find that voice and create even better things. Some might even end up being iconic, Smiling Friends is a good example.
