Uh oh...
That little nugget in there about financially supporting other adults is going to be really spicy in the comment section.
Iām seeing people confused in the comments. Heās saying that people should do both equal house/family work, and do equal paid work.
Iām not seeing how thatās so controversial, but I guess thatās where we are again these days.
Also, as ~~a woman~~ any adult person, making your own money doesnāt just support the household, it keeps your autonomy, and keeps you safe. Situations where you financially depend on your partner completely can very easily become bad (in a lot of different ways).
I do want to add the caveat that it can be more difficult as a woman to earn equal money to your male partner (yes, this is field dependent, before anyone comes for me with weirdly specific counter-examples). There is still statistically a gender wage gap. You should still do the best you can, but also donāt take it as a personal failure when you put in equal work, but your paychecks donāt always match.
I think previous generations called it āpaying the cost to be the bossā. I agree here. We need to instill the same traits in all children to create great adult caregivers when children are involved
Abolishing gender roles and expectations will make a freer and more inclusive world and society. Thatās feminism 101.
Obviously there is still a lot of work needed to be done to recognize the unpaid labor of women and devaluing of motherhood. However, the elimination of gender roles would open up possibilities for human emancipation.
men and women are the same and i legit think some of the hate towards trans ppl is bc they fully realize and experience that the only difference between humans (in the gender sense) is what hormone is the majority party in your body
(i was told as a kid that itās ok that iām bad at math bc men are better with the hard sciences and women excel in artistic and emotional trades and like, no, i just have dyscalculia)
This is the same dude who said he refuses to date someone other people donāt find attractive so ya know. Broken clock, twice a day etc
My husband and I are both college educated. We have a 4&5 year old. Daycare for them was close to $5000 a month in Denver. We had the choice to do that or I could be a stay at home mom and take care of them while my husband works 8-5pm. My income wouldnāt have even covered daycare and ontop of that they also wouldnāt have their parents 8-5 m-f.
Logistically that left me caring for the kids, cooking, cleaning , etc. we are progressive, liberal and we see each other as equals but it didnāt make sense to spend my entire income on childcare just to work when I could be pouring into teaching our kids and helping them emotionally. Call it gender roles or whatever but really itās what made sense to our family.
I will go back to work when the kids are in full time care. Iām no tradwife and still privileged to be a SAHM but I wouldnāt pass judgement unless you are having kids in 2020+
Times are different. Being a sahm is a privilege but also just financially necessary for some while children are young.
Husband makes $120,000 in software sales
I made $60,000 as a photographer/photo editor
Daycare for 2 kids in Denver $5000
Things are getting better, but there are still a lot of men who "help" around the house because they think of housework as primarily the woman's job. Some guys talk a good game about wanting equality in a relationship, but don't know the names of their kids' doctor and dentist because "my wife handles that stuff."
i didnāt know until recently that women were actually hunters too back in the day.
