Seriously. The fact that these algorithms are supposedly so intelligent but they can’t pivot to filter the neutered kid-gloves words as well is ultimate gas-lighting. It’s an obvious control tactic to get people accustomed to the manipulation of their speech.

I was watching a crime video on YouTube last night and they censored the word “savage.”

Gen Z reinvents cockney slang. "We were making a bit of Barney Rubble, I half-inched a dog and bone from this jam role, grabbed some pigs ear, and got into it with the trouble and strife when I came home creamed crackered!"

It's like when people say ahh. Just say it!

I hate that this has entered vocabulary for people because advertising and algorithms will suppress the actual words that are not offensive in any way. I actually heard what appeared to be a teenager say “self delete” unironically in line at a sub shop the other night.

as i see it, young people with their slangs nowadays, they are collectively and organically finding ways to communicate clearly with each other, WITHOUT having to censor the CONTENT of what they're saying, by only censoring the words

i think it's a pretty solid solution to a shitty dilemma - "stop talking about X, Y, Z, or have your voice silenced" - well i'll just call it A B C instead.

i agree the new gibberish words are silly. but they get the job done - everyone can easily figure out what they mean.

the intent of having certain words flagged and suppressed in the algorithm is to stop people from talking about controversial topics in order to keep advertisers happy.

and i see this gibberish as a way of subverting that - to continue the conversation.

and it's really practical cause slang is so fluid and organic, it shapes itself to its surroundings. if there's a new class mate with the same name as you, one or both of you are gonna get a nickname real fast, right?

so when sewer slide is eventually also flagged and suppressed, i bet IMMEDIATELY there's just gonna be a new, probably even sillier, word for 'suicide' and everyone will immediately know what it means

is all of it stupid ? yes. and also kinda scary, like, to see our language be changed that quickly in front of our eyes, as a reaction to restriction on our free speech? oui

but i feel like gen z came up with a gen z solution (dumb but super effective) to a gen z problem (literally a sci fi dystopia, only it's really boring, not exciting or cool at all)

edit: and i guess there is no need to use those words in real life (yet probably)

but i guess i just don't care if that language makes it out to the real world. i think it's very important to keep a collectively understood concept of what 'suicide' is, but i am not really bothered with what word(s) we use. language changes all the time, anyway. some words are uglier than others haha but there's preference involved in aesthetics, and again i don't really personally care. as long as i understand what you are saying, use whatever words you feel like

Previously, the novel and painting were the primary form of entertainment, the shape of which, by necessity, required concentration and encouraged deliberative thought. You are "absorbed" by the art. 

Enter the cinema, a constant bombardment of sensory experiences, creating a more distracted mode of entertainment. A constantly changing set of photographs leaves little space for deliberation. 

This change affects how we think in general. What happens when we switch from cinema to reels? How does that change the way we form thoughts? What about the fact one of our primary means of communication (from elites in power especially) restricts itself to 140 or 280 characters? 

they should just say the p*nal code of the crimes.

using "self delete" is appropriating gamer culture, we cant let them get away with it!
