It really depends on the speaker. For many speakers of Romance languages, the H sound did not survive the transition from Latin, and is almost always silent. Words like “Happy” or “Hotel” can be really challenging for a Parisian French speaker who didn’t encounter the phoneme a lot as a child, for example. Conversely, English doesn’t use much uvular fricatives (the throaty sounds in Danish or French) and English speaking adults may have trouble even identifying the sound, much less reproducing it.
