Why are kids being turned into Lolcows?

Currently, on TikTok, there’s a trend of people using their kids for profit by either intentionally making them “Lolcows” for views. Theres three main girls that come to mind when I talk about children being used by their mothers to gain attention by intentionally making them look greedy, disrespectful and/or spoiled (Not using their real names): B, V, and A. The first two girls are featured in series that have the children in the family pick from various food options to put on their plate. It’s common for them to choose more than they probably should for the sake of audience engagement. The last is a young girl who has multiple videos with her mum telling her off for paying things without permission or for misbehaviours. In each instance the choice by the mother is to publicly humiliate the girl and let the internet berate her. However, there’s a good chance these situations aren’t even real and it is purely for clout. Unfortunately, for all three girls, these videos could permanently damage their reputations, relationships and lives going forward.

In the comment section of videos featuring the girls, or in stitches, the girls are being berated by the audience, called everything under the sun and mercilessly mocked for their perceived sins, even in cases when it is clearly staged. People threaten or fantasise about beating or torturing these girls. Meanwhile, with the exception of one, the mothers are carefully hidden behind the camera so no one dares to mock their appearances in the same way. It’s deeply disturbing.
