The device you use can change the price you see. Sometimes it’s just the web browser that can change the prices you have to pay. It’s absolutely crazy.

I have a friend that works at Google tell me about this. Lyft/ Uber will charge more for rides ordered from Apple phones (money to burn) than from Android phones (the Poors). Prices will also change based on age/ model of phone and will be higher if battery is very low, assuming the person is desperate and won't have the time to compare prices.

"If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" for the past 20 years every time anyone who talks about privacy was looked at as a criminal. "You want us to use signal?! What are you a drug dealer?".

Airbnb does this too. There's have been multiple instances where my husband and I had different prices for the same property, same dates.

Airlines have been doing this for ages. Use an incognito Chrome tab on a laptop right after you clear all cookies and you will see much better prices.

Jensen Huang has alluded to how Agentic AI might potentially disrupt this practice. Your AI agent is capable of browsing thousands more outlets, creating temp emails and accounts, signing up for whatever discounts are available, booking at the exact perfect moment, etc.

Which is kinda grim if you think about it. E-commerce is about to get a whole lot worse for us plain old meatbags.
