Dr. Jennifer Tufts, former psychologist of alleged triple child murderer Lindsay Clancy, being grilled by defense counsel for being inexperienced. 🫣

I'm a professional who does casework. May this type of high-profile professional scrutiny never find me.

Don't want to hit 'post' without including a reminder that in America, defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty*.* In this case, defendant Clancy killed her three children during what she claims was a mental health crisis following the birth of her youngest.

Testimony about her mental health and the care she sought and received from professionals is highly relevant to her mental state at the time of the events, and moments like this on the witness stand are critical. This is just a snippet.

So wouldn't residency include treating patients with the oversight if another psychologist and the successful passing of a residents make one a qualified experienced expert? I hate court testimony so I only watched a few seconds.

She’s not a psychologist, she’s a psychiatrist. Getting that basic fact wrong really says a lot about OP.

She is a psychiatrist and went to medical school. She is a qualified psychiatrist. They cross examined her notes which only really need to be interpreted by her, they misrepresented her notes and then acted as if she didn't write the correct notes but a doctor's notes on a patient are for a doctor not a lawyer.

They are claiming that her one month of practice in postpartum psychiatric work doesn't qualify her as an expert. Not that she had only been practicing for a month. And her website doesn't call her expert. It says she has an interest in it. Which could be true.

They are also claiming that the mother was over medicated and the side effects of the medication were far too severe. That's a question that needs to be answered by another doctor.

And finally, a psychiatrist can't just lock people up or section them without cause. If the mother denied feeling homicidal or suicidal then it was not negligent of the psychiatrist to let her go home without hospitalizing her.

Watch and listen to what the defense is actually saying. They are being aggressive and crafting a story but the content itself is nonsense.

Dude I've been an expert in my (rather esoteric) field for 20 years now, and these fuckers still try to paint it like I have no idea what I'm doing. I mean, I don't but they shouldn't know that.

Someone should flip that question back at the defense. Distilling her experience to a “month on the job” is gross misrepresentation of her training.

She spent 4 years in med school and presumably another 4 years in residency working with patients every day. She is licensed and qualified.

I did a PhD and postdoc which took a cumulative 8 years and I’ve only been at my industry job for 3 months. I would have choice words for someone characterizing that as me only being a scientist for 3 months. If anything I’m way overqualified for what I do now.

i’m a psychotherapist but i can say that i highly doubt she will be charged. she doesn’t list it as a specialization or expert status. she was within her scope

This Dr and others are being sued by Patrick Clancy for medical malpractice/wrongful death so their testimony comes across as careful, cagey and noncommittal. The other doctor couldn’t recall anything.

This is such an horrendous lose-lose situation.

Most people enter fields like psychiatry to help others. For something like this to happen so early in a career is absolutely devastating. I can see it in her eyes and know the feeling. Hindsight is 20/20. I truly believe she did the best she could at the time. She completed the training that was required of her to practice. No other human can completely predict or control the behavior of another, psychiatrist or husband or friend (clearly).

May Cora, Dawson and Callan rest in peace.

May we do better by all children and mothers and those in need of mental health support.
