Tips For High School Social Media Program?

Hello! I am starting my 4th year as a Social Media & Content Development instructor at a Career and Technical high school. It’s a 2 year program for juniors and seniors, and students earn their IRC by passing the Adobe Certification assessments in Video Design (Premiere Pro + Photoshop/After Effects). Students can also secure an internship their senior year. It’s the coolest job ever 😎

I continue to struggle to decide what content to keep in the curriculum, and how to best prepare students for the workplace or post secondary school. It is such a vast and ever-changing landscape, and it’s overwhelming since I don’t have many other examples of curriculum to go by. My program is essentially the only one of its kind in my state. There are lots of digital media programs, but none of them are social media-specific.

What are some things you would want a high school graduate to know about social media before they graduate? What tools should they be able to use? What do you think is a waste of time? Would you hire a graduate that was Adobe certified and had some experience with live work, including making various promo videos, managing our school’s social media, and other leadership positions?

Do you know of resources I might find useful?

I think the most valuable thing is giving students some real-world experience rather than only teaching the tools. Letting them create content, try different ideas, make mistakes and see what actually works could teach them a lot.

I’d be curious to know what skills people hiring for social media roles value the most from fresh graduates.

Hey all, I own a business that involves many clients that promote their product, art or website with TikTok (also Instagram, Youtube and Facebook). I want to offer them a way to post their content, or to get content created and posted for them on existing TikTok pages. Basically you got pages in a specific theme (sport, anime, cinema, culture, memes...) and you rent it for a specific period of time.
