Airbnb rules are getting absolutely ridiculous

If damage occurs (like smoke odor in the home or a broken piano or other item), hosts have to file a claim for it after check out and prove it to support. This claim must include receipts or invoices of how much the item or damage cost them. Once support reviews it they request the funds from the guest through the resolution center. If the guest doesn’t pay, Airbnb pays the host through “air cover.” Obviously if you damaged something you shouldn’t hide it, but don’t just pay the host whatever fee they’re charging without airbnb support reviewing it for legitimacy. There’s nothing wrong with warning guests that an additional charge can be incurred for damage, but there’s no way for them to know the dollar amount until you check out.

Hosts will usually scrape off the top of whatever cleaning fee they charge, so you’re likely paying more than they’re actually paying their cleaners.

Do not stay anywhere that charges a ridiculous pet fee… they know they can keep it even if there’s no evidence of pet damage when you leave and on top of that, they will try to charge you extra for any excess cleaning that happens due to pet fur, etc. once again, double dipping.

Long story long: just stay in a hotel. Airbnb had a good run, but greed has ruined it.

Just go to hotels.

Hotels are just better. Airbnb used to be nice ik the early days when you could get a great deal for short stays but we are at a point were it's a worse experience and more expensive

I loved hate watching Cassie and John’s videos before they took them all down. They’d do a video shitting on their guests after they checked out. Nobody is sure if it was rage bait or they were actually this insane. Now they’ve deleted them all. Probably because air bnb took down their listing.

Seriously, just dump Airbnb. I did earlier this year and do not miss it at all. My whole life is travel and I always try to do it on the cheap, so if I can dump them, anyone can. In its first decade of life, Airbnb was incredible. In its current form, it is ruining cities' rental markets, ruining the hospitality industry, and it WILL ruin your travel experience.

I was looking for an airbnb for a bucks party (stag do, bachelor party). Found 1 property that was absolutely stunning, but had some interesting rules. Couldn't exceed a certain amount of noise past a certain time. How they monitored this? They installed a sound level meter and even gave you a number that cannot be exceeded. The place was incredible, but I found another that was way better but didn't have those stupid fucking rules. I was up front with the owner about what we were doing there, assured her we were cool and she was very accomodating. We even spent like an hour cleaning the place before we left.
