The difference is, we have the infrastructure at scale and technology to make the shit of today go away pretty easily; but political power struggles fueled by the rich keep the populace in developed countries fighting each other. So many conservatives for example, feel like their hardships are invalidated if someone else gets a handout...so they say stuff like the homeless don't want to work, or that people on welfare are lazy bums, etc. They truly believe that their level of comfort was not only earned, but that anyone who doesn't put in the same effort in their eyes, doesn't deserve a quality life. So we fight each other, while the people at the top exploit our labor for fractions of the value its worth.

Machine Head had a pretty decent song about this exact thing:

"I don't give a fuck if I'm rich motherfucker"

We bought that line 'cause we're a bunch of suckers

We're fighting for the scraps

We've let our conscience lapse

By turning cash into a god

We’re currently living in the golden age of television. Or it was just a couple years ago. Maybe the past decade?

She is beyond insufferable.

The difference is now the planet is dying along with the economy and society. Other generations had hope. We have once in a thousand years weather events every few days

I mean yeah but no. A lot of what she’s saying is kind of true but there a lot of objective metrics to show if a time is good or bad. A lot of the good parts of today simply weren’t around before but a lot of the same quality of life metrics are objectively worse right now. This is also generals and there are always going to be people who prosper in the bad times and visa versa.

Yeah but shit is getting worse. Sure a lot isn't any different but wealth inequality, drastic squeezing of the working class due to housing, utilities and food prices are happening. Politicians ARE working against democracy and the courts have become corrupt af.

These things have happened before. But not all at once and not seemingly deliberately.

So yeah some of your concerns are silly. But some are very valid.

Ah yes, the "you don't have it so bad" take from the generation that ruined everyone elses.
