178 million people living in a country the size of Illinois..

people always post stuff like this and never talk about why it happens or what they think the solution is, its literally just "this place is filthy and these filthy people do nothing to fix it."

there are several reasons why the country looks like this in some places but without even going into those i think what people should do is take a moment to think critically about your own trash and how much infrastructure is needed to manage it, how much trash do YOU create by yourself and what does it take to get rid of it.

ive seen one single family on my street where i live turn their alley into a dump because they couldnt afford to pay for pickup. a small local park turned into a complete clusterfuck like this in a matter of months because they removed two trashcans from it.

its not a cultural thing, there are just as many, if not more, filthy fucking slobs in america as there are there, the difference is someone here is spending millions of dollars paying thousands of people to clean up after them and that simply isnt happening there.

Bangladesh faces a severe waste management crisis, producing thousands of tons of solid trash daily that overwhelms urban areas, clogs waterways, and severely pollutes vital rivers..

That's a landfill

I lived in Bangladesh for three years. It was a difficult but amazing time. I was able to travel the whole country so I experienced all this first hand.

The poorer areas around the larger cities like Dhaka and Chittagong are exactly like this. Most areas are better but still third world conditions by and large.

It looks like the guy in the video is in one of the poorest areas of southern Dhaka near the Beribadh Road. This is one of the poorest slums in Bangladesh. The conditions that they live in is hard for anyone from a 1st world country to understand. Absolute brutality and levels of scarcity that likely none of us here in Reddit have personally experienced.

There is definitely a crazy culture there in many ways that contribute to this with screwed up priorities; horrific prostitution, child brides, Olympic gold level misogyny and subjugation of women and children, and incurable corruption that all leads to abuse of everything across the board to include the environment.

The biggest issue for the pollution, like some others have posted, is the insane amount of people everywhere with almost no infrastructure to support them.

Another place that was absolutely insane that I visited was the Buriganga river in the south area of Dhaka. Textile companies have leather tanning pits next to the river and once they are done they dump the tanning chemicals right into the river. The same with the industrial areas, crazy high pollution content to include metals, chemicals, and untreated human waste.

It heartbreaking that so many people live in these conditions with no chance of escaping it. There are some good people trying to fix it but they are up against impossible odds.

Cool poverty porn, surely monetized. Maybe I should also cash in on travelling to heavily populated places with notoriously bad infrastructure and pretending like I expected to see the French Riviera.

I really dislike when people only show the worst parts of a country. It's not a first world country by any means, but the entire country isn't exactly what you see in the video. 

And Bangladesh was the first country in the world to ban plastic bags, so not like they're not trying at all.
