I got a vasectomy and the doc wanted to prescribe me like 30 norco... I was like dude, I work in surgery. That is so damn much lol. Do you work for the fucking Sacklers or some shit? 😂

I got nothing after my surgery, just told to take Panadol. It wasn't hysterectomy but it was on the uterus. That was a week of hell. Apparently I was supposed to expect "mild cramping", and that's still the official line when I look up the procedure.

I have chronic pain from severe endometriosis amongst other things, and I have had numerous ovarian cysts burst, and have been told off by doctors before for "ignoring" severe pain that indicated a serious problem (I always have pain, so I noticed no difference), so I know what pain is, and this took me out for a week.

I had a hysterectomy and was told they’d get a wheelchair to take me out to my husband waiting in the car. They came back about ten minutes later and were like “let’s go!” So I walked out after about 20 minutes in recovery. When we got outside, my husband was not very nice. I was too woozy and in pain to do or say anything.

Anyway, I was prescribed enough 800mg ibuprofen for 3 days and that’s it. It sucked.

I’ve also had a colonoscopy twice and the after-care has been top-notch both times. I can’t believe the care after a butt-cam was far superior to having stuff ripped out of my body.

My wife and I have each had knee surgery. Hers was more serious than mine- mine was just an ACL repair, in and out in less than an hour- and they sent several times as much pain medicine home with me. I got one of those ice pump things, three braces, I don't even remember what all. She got a couple ice packs she had to recharge in the freezer.

Same insurance, too.

I’ll never forget the comparison a doctor gave a woman trying to justify not giving her any pain medication for a cervical biopsy. It was like “women give birth without pain medication. You’ll be fine.”

“So do dogs.”

“… what?”

“Dogs give birth without pain medication but they’re still medicated for medical biopsies.”

“Well, yes of course-“

“So why do human women get treated worse than dogs?”

I got a double mastectomy and they sent me home the same day with Tylenol. This was in Canada.

After my c section I was given tylenol and advil. 1 of the nurses noticed I was NOT fine and said they had to give me something stronger for atleast the night and that they'd take care of my baby for me till they were off shift. Bless her soul. I remember Pia still after 13 years and I appreciate her so much.

There's also a ridiculously prevalent belief amongst doctors that black people feel less pain or feel pain different somehow, this isnt me making this up they polled people on it and found it. It's genuinely crazy how often shit like this happens and pointing it out makes you woke or something I guess

Doctors refusing to talk about pain relief after surgery was one of the reasons I decided to not have my elective surgery. Also my brother has chronic back pain and just walks into his gp's office and asks for pain meds ( I dont know which ones) and he says a script is handed to him no questions. I have needed pain relief for my (gyno condition) and I have to beg and do what ever I can to get anything. And it's just naproxen. I believe it's a real thing. Not saying men dont have pain just it seems harder to get help and this is just from talking to male family members. They go to the doctor and seem to get help immediately while I on the other hand go and nothing is ever resolved and I feel like every talk with a doctor is me fighting and having to advocate for myself. It's exhausting.
