People get banned for "not" speaking mandarin?

I am new to red note. I join groups where hobbyist musicians take turns singing/performing on their musical instruments.

I do not know how to speak Mandarin. But I can speak English and Cantonese.

One time, the host of the music group said Red Note sent her a warning that the group was speaking too much English. So then everyone quickly switched to Mandarin, at which point, I didn't understand anything other than simple things like "it's your turn to perform".

Can someone explain to me what actually happens when you speak English on rednote? Is that a very dangerous ting to do? And what if I speak Cantonese? Some of the groups I join have cantonese speakers. Is speaking Cantonese also very dangerous on red note?

I'm not sure what I can or can't do, and what happens if i speak too much english/cantonese.

Any insight will help, thank you

Their system is just banning foreign for no reason at all. A year ago when tiktok got banned many foreign users started using XHS it was so good back then. As we know Chinese social media has a lot of restrictions and you really need a Chinese id and all for security purposes since we don’t have it there are a lot of this the app doesn’t allow. It’s basically because it’s not user friendly for foreigners.

So no it’s not because you speak English only. I also have gc where we talk in English only.

They have to watch everything a foreigner posts on the platform, they don't want to do it. You post too often, you get a warning, you post in English you get a warning. They just don't want to do the  work so they just ban or restrict accounts, that's why the rules seem arbitrary. Xhs workers are just lazy  tyrants.

The only way to protect yourself from Insta bans is registering with a Chinese number

There are successful content creators on there who don't even speak Chinese, so I'm genuinely not sure what that was about.

I only speak English, and have boon on there for a year or two. I was stopped from posting and commenting because they wanted my ID. Eventually that request just went away and I could post/comment.

I came across a video titled “Is it true that foreigners find this video offensive?” and left a comment in English. When my comment was deleted or I was banned for not using Chinese, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on. I mean, why even use Reddit in the first place?

There are moderators monitoring for rule-breaking language on the platform. The vast majority of those moderators only speak Mandarin and will steer streams back in that direction if too much of another language is being used.

This is the same on Douyin.

I assume there are moderators for other languages, as there are streams/content creators that primarily use other languages, but they may be limited to moderating streams that are known for using such languages.

To me it sounds like that particular group just wanted to hear and speak mandarin? I have an XHS and I can post, comment, join lives. I signed up with my passport number and I don’t speak mandarin

They literally advertise on TT, why do this?

Same reason content in Chinese dialects sometimes gets censored. If they can't understand it easily/quickly, it's harder to monitor/control

rant: i really hate rednote

I'm Chinese, and I've been living in China for 6 years now. I did briefly grow up in Canada, which, honestly, brutally fucked up my Chinese when I was younger, which means that my Chinese is nearly native level speaking-wise, not so much texting-wise. I hate the glaze that abcs/cbcs get for using shitty Chinese, but when I misunderstand a comment in Chinese and ask stuff, I get told by other Chinese netizens that I'm not Chinese and I'll never be Chinese enough and uncultured and i should go dickride white people and then I report it, and nothing happens because I reported it with my fuckass Chinese. i get this sm now js because my IP says Canada because I'm visiting my family there rn. what the fuck. i hate my life i hate being told im an immigrant in one place and then when i actually go the fuck home back to my 'home country' i get told that im uncultured and stupid and "dickriding the west." can we delete all chinese men above 40 from the app please please please please please i cant stand ts anymore i would rather be on twitter and being spammed by bots like 'big boobed janette' than ts.

Hello Rednoters in the US, what is the common tags you will use and see in posts? Especially those are used in your context.

No offense Americans but...

How do I see less American content on Rednote. I'm Canadian and it is showing me so many English text questions and the same old stuff from Americans. I'd rather see Chinese art and content.

Do you need to verify to purchase items on rednote

Like are there any risks involved, just can you purchase without id verification?

Can't send messages to sellers' customer service on RedNote. Has anyone experienced this?2

Can't send messages to sellers' customer service on RedNote. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm a Xiaohongshu (RedNote) user from South Korea. I recently bought a ring through a livestream on rednote, but I've been having trouble contacting the seller's customer service. Every time I try to send a message, I get an error saying "Network unstable, please check your network setting!" (当前网络不稳定,请检查你的网络设置), and the message fails to send. However, I've never received any notification saying that my account has been restricted. I can still use the app normally, create posts, and make purchases without any issues. I'm also able to send direct messages to some sellers through their personal accounts. For example, when a seller's personal DM and store customer service chat are separate, I can contact them through their personal account without any problems. The issue seems to happen specifically when I try to message a store's customer service. Since I'm an international user, I'm wondering if this could be related to account restrictions, regional limitations, or some kind of app bug. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Does anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
