Oversharing online

What do you guys think about oversharing online? Sometimes i’ll post something personal and immediately regret it for obvious reasons, but at the same time, I like feeling connected with people who understand and experience similar things. Any thoughts?

It drives me crazy and it makes me cringe so bad. I get secondhand embarrassment.

I understand why people do it and I get that sometimes they’re just lonely and need to vent and be heard. However they don’t understand that airing your business out online can come back to bite you in the ass in a lot of different ways. Not to mention it can paint you in a negative light.

Validation is being sought out in the wrong place.

It also kills me sometimes cause these are the same people that will turn around and tell people to stay out of their business lol

Write it, leave it until the next day, and take out details that could identify other people before you share it.

Over sharing or trauma dumping where it’s not appropriate? I take issue with the latter, and I think most people are getting sick of it. I can’t watch a gaming stream now without people with main character syndrome trying to sympathy farm by making everyone read about their mental health/chronic illness/abuse stories.

If that’s not what you’re doing, and the platform is geared up for the topic and welcomes it, fine. Otherwise find appropriate channels where you’re not triggering trauma in other people.

These comments are interesting. I actually tend to get the most engagement/conversion from my “oversharing” posts because I frame it like: hey, if you’re also struggling with this weird/niche/difficult feeling, you’re not as alone as you feel.

For example, if I post about the specific struggles I’m facing from my mental illness/disability OR ways that I cope with those feelings OR how low I was vs how far I’ve come (the more detail the better), I get a huge influx of follows + comments & DMs thanking me for posting so vulnerably. It’s personal. It makes people feel seen. And it helps my audience know/feel connected to me.

In contrast, when I pull back and start overthinking how I am perceived, my engagement/conversion takes a hit. People don’t care as much about my content or keeping up with my page when all I am posting is polished social-media-worthy highlights. they don’t feel like they really know me.

If you’re building a personal page/brand, I think the trick to oversharing is doing it candidly (and not incessantly) instead of trying to farm sympathy. The former can be extremely valuable to both the creator and their audience. The latter is just annoying.

Yes it is scary as fuck to hit post though 😂 especially when people I know irl will see it. I always need to remind myself that cringe is a made up concept I shant concern myself with lol.

I think sometimes it’s easier to be honest about yourself and how you feel with people you don’t have to worry about responding in a negative way.

I’d ask myself whether I’d still be okay with the post if nobody replied, or if someone I work with saw it later. If either answer is no, I’d send it to a friend first. Wanting connection is normal; a public post just gives you very little control over who responds or how.

How did i become a popular creator? A Self Journey and Real Stuff that worked

So uh yeah over the last three months I've had 14 videos cross roughly like 500K views, a few of them even hit 2M!!!. Here is stuff that i'd probably like to share with you guys # Stop debating whether to post, just post. When you start out you have no idea what works. That's fine. Nobody does. I had 0 idea what to post but posted out whatever i felt like maybe someone would have similar humor or feelings as me!!! So just post a lot. It's okay if its not up to the mark. Nobody is watching yet and the ones who are don't matter. Atleast make a move! Once you start to get what's actually getting any traction in your niche or whatever you are posting about, then slow down and put more effort into each one. It's not a switch you flip, it's a slow shift. I used this app called Social Hunt for a bit to figure out what topics and formats are becoming popular before they peak, so I'm not just putting anything. I also remember using vidIQ for great insights for what i should imporve and a great tool called Tikmatics for catching TikTok audio trends before they got popular. But honestly none of that matters if you're not posting consistently first which I did . So yeah thats the main thing . # Relax. It's literally just numbers on a screen. Our mindset is litterally everything. You can know every trick and still lose if you let the numbers hurt your feelings. And they will try. A video will flop and it WILL feel personal. It's not guys , it happens to all of us and has happened before. Social media will beat you up. Especially early. Expect it. The only people who grow are the ones who keep going after getting punched in the face a few times. Make getting better the goal, not the numbers. I see so many popular creators who used to struggle with like 100, 57, 130 , 29 views on youtube shorts instagram . Even if i scrolled down today on them they would still show those low numbers. Expect this to take two or three years EASILY. Expect it to be harder than you think. Expect plateaus that genuinely hurt. Keep going anyway. You don't need to look at the past or feel bad about today , be yourself! # Learn to tell stories. Be interesting. Make people feel something. Doesn't matter how good your research is or how early you catch a trend if your content is boring. Learn to be charismatic on camera. Learn to entertain. Give yourself time to develop the skill but actually develop it. Like i am doing today! That's it. Go post something!!

LinkedIn or X for building a professional audience?

I only have time to do one properly. LinkedIn gets more reach, but half the feed reads like a motivational poster. X has better conversations but unless you already have followers it feels like posting into the void. If you have used both, which one helped you build a professional audience better and how long did it take?

Hot take: most small accounts don't need more followers, they need a reason for the ones they have to come back

I keep seeing people with 300-800 followers chase growth hacks, collabs, hashtags, trending audio, all to get new eyes. But when I look at their profiles, there's no reason to come back. Every post is a different topic, a different style, no series, nothing to look forward to. My take: until 1 in 10 of your current followers would actually notice if you stopped posting, getting more followers mostly just makes the numbers bigger, not the account better. Pick one recurring thing (a weekly breakdown, a series, a running joke, whatever) and do it until people expect it. Am I wrong? Did anyone here grow by focusing on reach first and it worked out?

One creator account or two separate ones?

I’ve built a fairly large audience through aesthetic lifestyle content like cozy home videos, cooking, cute drinks, cafés, and daily vlogs. However, I also love makeup, beauty, fashion, and modeling, and I want to become known personally rather than just for my aesthetic content. I created a separate account for my face, beauty, and fashion, but now I’m unsure whether to keep both accounts or combine everything. I’m worried that mixing cozy lifestyle content with makeup videos, fashion, and more personal content might make my main account feel inconsistent. I also don’t want to lose the audience and identity I’ve worked hard to build, but I also don’t want to limit myself creatively The content overlaps a lot, too. Where would things like daily vlogs, beauty treatments, shopping, and café visits go? Those clips are of me and related to beauty, but they’re also my life and lifestyle i also had thoughts like, if someone asks for my social media, which one do I give out? Which one is me? Which is my main account? I’ve been going back and forth on this for so long that I genuinely don’t know what makes the most sense anymore it’s stressing me out😭 i really appreciate any ideas and opinions!

Is there an app or website that builds a social media strategy and generates content based on your answers to a few questions?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a tool (app or website) where you can input information about your business, niche, or goals by answering a series of questions, and it automatically creates a full social media strategy and generates ready-to-use content based on those answers. Ideally, something that helps with planning and content creation without needing to prompt everything manually from scratch. Does anyone know of a tool like this? Recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
