This was one of the most pivotal moments in modern American politics.
More than probably any moment, it clarified that liberal Democrats were not progressive populists when Obama (and rest of Democratic leadership) could have bailed out either the banks or the homeowners and then chose the banks.
We're still living in the materially immiserating shadow that decision cast, along with all the space it allowed Republicans to tap into economic aggrievement and pretend to be populists themselves.
Very important movie.
Teachers can’t get a break man
This was a good movie
Look at my quants
But why did the poor and immigrants made the banks do that?!?!

Sadly that movie CONTINUES to be more and more relevant.
and everyone, EVERYONE, laughed at or derided the Occupy Wallstreet folks who were out there trying to do the right thing.
The movie is great, but the person this character is based on: Steve Eisman. Is a fucking asshole and certainly not one who would be waxing poetic like this. In 2024, Eisman replied to a tweet that said: "Screams of Palestinians being burnt alive. A holocaust is happening before our eyes and the world is silent." with: "You must be kidding. We are not silent. We are celebrating"
Steve is a piece of shit. Doesn't mean the movie is wrong, but don't forget what kind of people the main characters really are.

For the top
This proved to me that our whole society is rigged and extremely broken. This clip really feels like a gut punch every time I see it. This is one of those harsh realities that although true, it rips you apart inside and makes you feel helpless and for me, its just unhealthy to keep in my thoughts. Ignorance can really be bliss sometimes.
