I didnt use tiktok in the first place im from youtube shorts but i was interested in rednote and i love it!
This app has opened me up to a new way of thinking. Honestly, I am humbled by how much I didn’t know about Chinese culture. I like to think of myself as a decently informed person with cultural competence, and I think I am more globally aware than most Americans (which doesn’t say much lol). I like to research countries, but I never really cared about China. I knew it had 1.4 billion people, but it didn’t register to me just how many people that was. That’s so many people who are living a life with completely different mindsets and values to the western world I was brought up in. I went in very guarded and suspicious of “Chinese propaganda,” expecting them to aggressively instill their way of life onto me, because if it was the other way around, that’s exactly what Americans would do. I also went in arrogant, thinking us Americans would show the Chinese people what it’s like to live in a “free society.” Instead, I encountered some of the most rational, intelligent discussions I’ve ever seen online. The Chinese language is so poetic and intricate, at least that’s my impression from reading English translations. I was met with so much warmth, rationality, and calmness. I broke down in tears. I have never felt so safe in an Internet space before. Their musings about harmony and connection touched my heart as someone who lives in a nation of distrust and division. And I know it doesn’t show the whole China. There are probably bad parts I’m not seeing. I think there are things they could learn from us as well. I think a good nation needs to have a balance of individualistic and collectivistic qualities. Coming from the U.S., seeing a nation that is so united is beautiful.
Got restricted for 3 months. Mentioned some contact info in the comments in one of my posts and now they won’t lift the ban. I tried appeal in app and then through their support email for the past week. Nothing works. How did you guys do it? Any tips? -even though they banned me for some restrictions rule 6 or like makes my account unable to post or speak in chat. But what’s with the main page disappearance? That is just so annoying…

Some good news for people who are panicking about seemingly random restrictions. I got restricted this afternoon (3pm CEST) and it's already been lifted! All I had to do was appeal. Hopefully more of you can have experiences like this, but hope isn't lost! :)
3i’m australian born chinese. some of my interests are really niche globally, but has lots of fanartists in china. i’m friends with them on global platforms like xwitter, but they post much more here and also it’s more lively.. i’d really love to see their works (guess i still can, i just can’t share anymore.) so far the changes in my account that i noticed is a fully resetted profile name, pictures, bio. people won’t see my profile and posts, and i can’t make new posts or comment. they’ve restricted the feature to delete this account and make a new one..? it doesn’t bother me cuz i just started, but i’m still a little sad. ive tried the automated appeal with my passport. i dont care if they get my information but when i tried to give my details, it needed me to NFC scan my passport. the facial recognition failed many times since my lighting was too bright. after the 7th try they got it, but said my phone is “unsafe”, therefore it’s not valid. is there just no way around it… ive said absolutely nothing to no one, i like art posts and finally decided to post my own drawings (with my desc text in chinese). did i post too many within 30 minutes??? whatd i even do so far bilibili has been the most kind app to me, taobao has also banned me at one point should i pack it up and leave
