Let me recommend a few other online platforms, just like Rednote, that will make you feel like you've discovered a whole new world

Hello,I'm a Chinese native.I’m really grateful to everyone from around the world who’s been sharing your stories and perspectives with us lately. Rednote is an online utopia created mainly by young women, which is why you’ll find the vibe here super friendly. We’re so glad you’re enjoying the app, and feel free to keep using it—just don’t forget to pay your pet tax on time.If you’re looking to explore more of China, beyond the utopia, here are some other Chinese platforms I recommend. Feel free to check them out!

豆瓣 Dou Ban :豆瓣 (douban.com) If you're tired of short videos and looking for a community focused more on written content, I'd recommend Douban. It's kind of like a mix of IMDB (or Rotten Tomatoes)+Reddit+ Amazon reviews (or Goodreads). When Chinese people want to check the ratings of a movie, TV show, or novel, they usually go to Douban. The platform has tons of different groups in all kinds of areas, just like Reddit. You can join groups for cooking, movies, books, photography, gossip, trauma support, and more. Similar to rednote, most Douban users are women, and many of them are well-educated. Some women there have pretty good English. If you're a feminist, you’ll easily find your people there, and there’s content on Douban that you won’t find on Rednote.

bilibli:哔哩哔哩 (゜-゜)つロ 干杯~-bilibili This is like YouTube for Chinese people, mainly focused on long-form videos, although users can also upload short ones. A lot of Bilibili creators repurpose your TikTok videos and upload them to Bilibili to make money. Some foreigners even create accounts on Bilibili. While watching videos, viewers can send real-time comments (called "danmu"). The audience is mainly young, with a pretty even split between male and female users. The vibe is more authentic compared to platforms like Rednote which tends to be friendlier, but they are usually a bit more welcoming to foreigners. Personally, I like watching documentaries, movies, variety shows (which require a membership), and entertainment gossip on Bilibili.

WeiBo:微博 (weibo.cn) This is like China's version of X, filled with the latest breaking news and entertainment gossip. You can see how our media covers news about America on here. Of course, just like X, Weibo is full of angry arguments and debates every day. But it's also the closest thing Chinese internet users have to free speech.

However, just like Rednote, all of these platforms in China are subject to speech regulation.

My least favorite app is Douyin, which is the Chinese version of TikTok. It's really noisy, full of low-quality content, and the comment section is pretty unfriendly.

Enjoy~🐱

Unfortunately, Weibo is shit, many people don’t like it even Chinese. Bilibili is the best.

You dont mention Zhihu. There are so many anti gov posts, taiwan 1450 shills there. Let our foreign friends learn our chinese freedom speech.

Can foreigners join douyin? I have tried a few times with a friend who speaks Chinese, but it seems to only be available for people with Chinese phone numbers, Chinese citizens, HK and Macau residents, and long-term foreign residents living in China.

no, can you stop? they already plan on separating china based users from the rest of the world on rednote because of these foreigners. And i only want to see chinese content. Foreigners are ruining rednote. I don't want them to discover other chinese platforms. I'm chinese and i sometimes use these to search up stuff about china

I'm sorry, but RedNote is propaganda, not a Utopia.

I would say Weibo is nowhere close to anything of free speech. 百度贴吧/虎扑/豆瓣(鹅组)has been on the government concerned list more than that shithole. Some positive has occurred on one or another, but none can be said for Weibo

So yeah the internet cesspools of China. I also would recommend 知乎(zhihu) for those anti-China people on this sub. It's Chinese Quora.

I follow short vertical drama celebrities in Douyin, which handful of them cannot be found in Weibo.

Can westerners join those? Because I can lurk on douyin but cannot comment or post there, I wish I could, that's why l liked 小红书a lot.

Isn't it Douban need china phone number for registration then can only make comments and interact with the local? Just curious is there a way to register without phone number?

Making the Jump from TikTok to Rednote(Xiaohongshu)? Here’s What You Need to Know

So you’re thinking about switching (or at least dabbling) from TikTok to **Rednote** (aka Xiaohongshu)? Here’s a quick rundown on what to expect and how to adapt: 1. **Different Vibe** * **TikTok** is all about short, snappy videos—dances, trends, and memes. * **Rednote** leans more toward lifestyle tips, product reviews, and personal stories. Think mini-blogs rather than just quick clips. 2. **Less is More—or Is It?** * On **TikTok**, you can go viral with a 15-second masterpiece. * On **Rednote**, people actually read captions and appreciate detailed posts. Don’t be afraid to write a bit more and share personal insights. 3. **Engage with the Community** * Responding to comments is key on both platforms, but **Rednote** users expect a friendlier, more helpful approach. Focus on real interaction rather than just racking up views. 4. **Use Relevant Hashtags & Keywords** * **TikTok** hashtags can be trendy and fleeting. * **Rednote** hashtags and keywords should be more targeted, especially if you’re reviewing products or sharing how-to tips. 5. **Be Ready for Culture Shifts** * The **Rednote** audience often loves beauty, travel, fashion, and “real-life” hacks. * If you’re pivoting from dance challenges, consider experimenting with lifestyle or review content to fit the platform’s style. 6. **Quality Over Quantity** * While **TikTok** can reward frequent posting, **Rednote** might favor fewer, well-thought-out posts that really resonate. High-quality visuals and genuine storytelling go a long way. Got questions about Rednote? Drop ’em below—always happy to help a fellow content creator make the jump!

The ban isn't really about privacy concerns

Why exactly? You and me know why America is banning tiktok... They can't control the narrative their like they do with Facebook or Instagram YouTube. etc The genocide in Gaza was being shown in its full without any kind of censorship... And daddy israel doesn't like that so the AIPAC who's holding the American politicians by the balls... Forced them into banning the app.... It's not about privacy or any of that.... Remember edward Snowden.? I rest my case.

Y'all know why Trump suddenly became "pro-TikTok" right?

Say it with me....because he and his oligarch buddies are getting worried Americans are waking up to the truth about the anti-China propaganda BS in Red Note and will either demand better conditions or go full socialist.
