Unpopular Opinion: TikTok didn’t suddenly become worse. The echo chambers just got reset.

Ever since TikTok got unbanned, I’ve seen people complaining that it’s now pushing pro-US propaganda or trying to brainwash users. But I don’t think that’s what’s happening at all.

My theory is that TikTok has always been a master of creating echo chambers. In the past, the algorithm used to shield users in bubbles that reinforced their own political beliefs. You’d be spoon-fed content that aligned with what you already agreed with, and you wouldn’t see anything that challenged your worldview. This suppression of opposing opinions was subtle but effective. It kept people comfortable in their own little ideological silos.

Now that TikTok’s algorithm has likely been adjusted, those echo chambers seem to have been reset, exposing people to different viewpoints and "real-world" perspectives. The result? People feel uncomfortable because they’re suddenly seeing content that challenges their long-held beliefs. Instead of realizing that this discomfort is a good thing. It should be an opportunity to critically think about world politics, but they’re labeling it as propaganda.

TikTok didn’t suddenly change sides; it just stopped shielding people from the other side. And maybe, just maybe, this is what the platform should’ve been doing all along: giving people the tools to think for themselves rather than keeping them in algorithmically tailored comfort zones.

No Nazi racist will ever "challenge" anything other than their 2 brain cells fighting for third place.

It became worse and you can plug your ears and close your eyes and say whatever the fuck you want, its not gonna make what happened any less true.

Not to mention, the Retard in chief wants his new best friend Ellison to help purchase Tiktok

The algorithm should show you what you like/want, not otherwise imo.

There were viral videos going around that if you block the FB, IG and Meta accounts on TikTok, apparently you will get at least most of your algorithm back. I was skeptical at first but did it anyway, and it seems to have worked. Also, just start doing searches again on content creators/subjects which were in your original algorithm - I did that as well and it looks like I'm seeing what I was used to seeing again for the most part. I would tend to agree that TikTok was probably compromised in some way. Hopefully the TikTok CEO posts a video soon to give us any updates.

Pro MAGA/Pro Trump propaganda is NOT "Pro US Propaganda"

Yeah but I only watched skits, anime edits, gaming videos, and big booty white goth chicks. I don't care about politics and having it shoved down my throat is annoying.

To be honest, my FYP hasn't changed one bit. I'm not sure what people are complaining about, you create the FYP you want. Don't like something on it? Block it.

The Baader–Meinhof phenomenon, or "frequency illusion," could play a big role in why people feel like they’re being bombarded with political propaganda on TikTok. Once someone starts hyper-fixating on a particular political narrative (say, pro-US content) they’ll naturally begin noticing it everywhere, even if it’s not as pervasive as they think.

It’s not that the algorithm is only feeding them this type of content, but their brain is filtering out everything else and zeroing in on what aligns with their fixation. This creates the illusion that TikTok is “flooded” with a specific agenda, when in reality, they’re just more sensitive to noticing it. It’s a psychological trick, not necessarily an intentional push by the platform.
