“Looksmaxxing” on tiktok?

To preface, I completely understand wanting to look better and doing what you can to feel like you are making a change to be healthier, etc. however, it’s gotten to a point where people all of a sudden think that they need to change because they don’t look exactly like an influencer, even if they are already pretty healthy or attractive. The amount of silly insecurities that tiktok makes like “headphone waist”, “wonyoungism” Victoria’s Secret thinspo videos, etc. I understand looksmaxxing isn’t a tiktok thing, but I’ve used some of the looksmaxxing subreddits here and they aren’t as bad as tiktok, as they give actual criticisms instead of making stuff up. Is there any sort of reason why everyone wants to look a certain way if we live in a society that apparently more accepting than others ? I notice the main audience of these posts are young adults ~20 or just teenagers.
