Older generations have a very hierarchical mentality and think that respect is a one way street. I'm sure this dudes elders were as condescending to him as a kid and now that he's a big boy he thinks he's entitled to act the same as a reward for enduring it before. Sad.

That old crusty turd of a man is a horrific waste of space. Imagine being that age, and so full of racist hate and anger and bile. Honestly, the old guy’s life is DEFINITELY one of quiet despair. To go so far out of his way, to make so much effort to be that vile and hateful to a young person (who to be fair, was irritating him) signifies that his life is in some kind of crisis or chaos. The racist stuff though, that is a hate crime and he should be punished by the law for that.
