How does the initial TikTok streak work?

I got a streak unlocked today but me and my friend haven’t been consistent, we both chatted on Monday, only they sent stuff yesterday, and I sent a tik tok today and we got a streak. Does it have to be both to get the streak or just one person?

both to keep it going and if you lose it you can restore it within 48hrs but only like once every (#) days. depending how long your streak was determines how often you can restore. i think it starts at once every 90 days, then 60 days, 30 etc but i’m not sure the numbers on that
