Why is my following page only showing me ads or videos I've already watched

For the past like week or two I've been trying to watch my following page for obvious reasons but it's as if none of the people I've been following have posted anything new! And I know they have because I've checked their pages! I don't understand what's going on! My following is like 70% ads and the rest of videos I've already watched. It's so frustrating.
